Foundation Repair Photo Album: Major Foundation Settlement Repair - Newark, NJ
A homeowner in Newark, New Jersey was experiencing major settling in their home's foundation. The signs of foundation settlement are, cracks in exterior or interior, wall failure, and changes in the way doors and windows operate. The cause of foundation settlement is the compression of poorly compacted fill soil. When soil fill is not compacted well, it will compress under the weight of the home, which causes settlement.
The homeowner called Quality 1st Basement Systems and our System Design Specialist inspected the home. Upon inspection, he found that the foundation had vertical cracking and was settling. He suggested push piers to stabilize the home. Our foreman, Jonathan Neira, installed the Steel Push Piers to lift and level, and to also close the cracks in the foundation. This process is quick and has minimal disturbance. The soil is removed from around the foundation, where the piers will be placed. Then, the piers are hydraulically driven through to the stable soil layer. Once the stabilization is complete, the soil is backfilled, and the entire system is hidden from view.

Settlement in Concrete Slab
The soil under the foundation could no longer support the weight of the home, which caused movement in the soil resulting in cracks in the concrete.
