Foundation Repair Photo Album: Foundation Repair in Astoria, NY
A homeowner in Astoria, New York was experiencing cracking in their foundation. This cracking is called stair step cracking that is a common symptom of foundation settlement. The soil below the home can no longer support the weight, so the home continues to settle. So what causes foundation settlement? When dry periods extend for months or even years, the soil dries out. So when the soil shrinks around the home, it creates an empty space for the home to settle into.
Looking to fix this problem, the homeowner contacted Quality 1st Basement Systems through Angie's List. Our System Design Specialist, Javier Hoyos Romero, provided an inspection of the home. He suggested push piers to lift and stabilize the foundation of the home. Our foreman, Jonathan Neira, and he installed the Steel Push Piers to permanently stabilize the home. This is done by removing the soil around the footing where the piers will be installed. The weight of the home is transferred from the concrete foundation, through the steel piers, to the deep load-bearing soil. Once the stabilization and lift are completed, the soil is backfilled and the piers are hidden from view. This home is now permanently stabilized in its new position.
