Transforming a Damp Crawl Space in Little Egg Harbor Township, NJ
Challenge
In Little Egg Harbor Township, NJ, a homeowner was dealing with a persistent and increasingly frustrating issue: excess moisture in the crawl space. Over time, the damp environment began affecting the air quality throughout the home. Musty odors were noticeable upstairs, and the homeowner also experienced rising energy bills due to poor insulation performance and uncontrolled humidity below the living space. Like many homes with vented or unsealed crawl spaces, moisture from the ground was evaporating upward, creating an environment conducive to mold growth, wood rot, and dust mites. The homeowner understood that ignoring the issue could lead to structural damage and worsening indoor air quality, so they contacted us for a professional evaluation.
Our System Design Specialist conducted a meticulous inspection of the crawl space. During the assessment, he identified ground moisture infiltration as the primary source of the problem. The exposed crawl space floor and insufficient insulation were allowing humidity to accumulate and circulate into the upper living areas. Rather than recommending a temporary fix, we designed a customized, long-term encapsulation solution focused on moisture control, energy efficiency, and overall home health.
Solution
To fully address the issue, we installed a three-part crawl space encapsulation system:
1.) CleanSpace Vapor Barrier
CleanSpace was installed across the crawl space floor and walls to completely encapsulate the area. This durable, engineered liner creates a continuous moisture barrier that prevents ground vapor from entering the space. Unlike conventional thin liners, CleanSpace is tear-resistant and designed to withstand long-term environmental stress. By sealing off the crawl space, we eliminated the primary source of moisture intrusion and significantly reduced the risk of mold development.
2.) SilverGlo Wall Insulation
Next, we installed SilverGlo insulation panels along the crawl space walls. With an R-11 insulation rating, SilverGlo improves thermal performance and helps stabilize temperatures inside the home. Its graphite-enhanced structure reflects heat back into the space, increasing energy efficiency. Additionally, SilverGlo provides an extra vapor barrier layer, reducing humidity intrusion from the foundation walls.
3.) SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier
To ensure ongoing humidity control, our technicians installed the SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier. This high-performance system continuously regulates moisture levels, keeping humidity well below the threshold that supports mold and dust mite growth. Compact yet powerful, the SaniDry Sedona quietly improves indoor air quality while protecting the crawl space environment year-round.
