Crawl Space Encapsulation in Towson, MD
Challenge
A homeowner in Towson, MD reached out to Quality 1st after noticing ongoing dampness and musty conditions coming from their crawl space. The home had been experiencing persistent humidity, and the homeowner was concerned about mold, poor air quality, and potential damage to the home’s structure. The crawl space had exposed ground and minimal insulation, allowing moisture from the soil to rise into the space and circulate throughout the house. Over time, this created an unhealthy environment that affected comfort levels inside the home.
During the homeowner's free estimate appointment, we found high moisture levels throughout the crawl space. The exposed dirt floor was releasing moisture into the air, and the foundation walls lacked proper insulation and vapor protection. There was no system in place to control humidity, allowing damp air to rise into the home’s living areas. We explained that crawl space moisture doesn’t stay contained, it directly impacts indoor air quality, energy efficiency, and structural components like floor joists and subflooring.
Solution
To fully solve the problem, Quality 1st designed a complete crawl space encapsulation system:
-
CleanSpace Vapor Barrier: Installed along the crawl space floor and walls to seal out ground moisture and prevent vapor intrusion.
-
SilverGlo Insulation: Added to the crawl space walls to improve thermal efficiency and keep floors warmer above.
-
SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier: Installed to continuously remove moisture from the air and maintain healthy humidity levels year-round.
This system completely isolated the crawl space from outside moisture and created a controlled, dry environment beneath the home. After installation, the crawl space was transformed from a damp, unhealthy area into a clean, dry, and insulated space. Humidity levels dropped significantly, eliminating musty odors and reducing the risk of mold growth. The homeowner immediately noticed improved air quality and more comfortable temperatures inside the home. The encapsulation system now protects the home from moisture damage while improving energy efficiency and long-term structural health.
