Crawl Space Encapsulation in Feasterville Trevose, PA
Challenge
A homeowner in Feasterville Trevose, PA, contacted us after noticing that their crawl space had standing water puddles on its concrete floor. The damp conditions were especially concerning because moisture in a crawl space can quickly lead to mold growth, musty odors, and structural damage. Over time, this moisture could also travel upward into the living areas of the home, impacting indoor air quality. The homeowner wanted a permanent solution that would not only stop water from entering but also make the space cleaner and more efficient.
Solution
During our inspection, we found multiple signs of ongoing water intrusion. While the puddles on the floor were the most visible symptom, there were also damp wall surfaces, condensation signs, and a generally humid environment. Without a protective barrier, the exposed concrete floor and walls were allowing moisture to continually seep into the space. Additionally, the lack of insulation along the walls meant heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer, increasing energy costs.
To fully address the problem, our team designed a comprehensive encapsulation and humidity control plan:
-
Encapsulation with CleanSpace: We installed CleanSpace, a heavy-duty, 20-mil vapor barrier, across the entire crawl space floor and walls. This product is designed to completely seal the space from ground moisture, creating a bright, clean, and durable surface.
-
Wall Insulation with SilverGlo: We lined the crawl space walls with SilverGlo rigid foam insulation panels. SilverGlo not only insulates but also features a reflective surface that helps improve energy efficiency by reflecting radiant heat.
-
Humidity Control with SaniDry Sedona: To keep the crawl space dry year-round, we installed a SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier. This high-capacity, energy-efficient unit automatically keeps relative humidity below 55%, preventing mold growth and eliminating musty odors.
The homeowner now has a crawl space that is dry, bright, and protected from future moisture issues. With the new insulation and dehumidifier, the home will also benefit from improved energy efficiency and better indoor air quality.
