Transforming a Sagging and Wet Crawl Space in Budd Lake, NJ
Challenge
In Budd Lake, NJ, a homeowner contacted us at Quality 1st Basement Systems after noticing several concerning symptoms in their home. Moisture was collecting beneath the vapor barrier in their crawl space, and the floors on the first floor were noticeably uneven. Doors were also misaligned: classic indicators of a compromised support system beneath the house. We promptly scheduled a home inspection to assess the problem. Our System Design Specialist, Frank found excess moisture under the crawl space’s vapor barrier, along with evidence of structural instability leading to floor sagging and misalignment throughout the first level of the home. The foundation support system was clearly failing, and immediate action was needed to prevent further damage.
Solution
To address both the moisture and structural issues, we designed a two-part solution. First, we installed the CleanSpace encapsulation system. This heavy-duty liner sealed off the crawl space from external moisture, transforming the environment into a clean, dry, and mold-resistant area. This step ensured humidity would be under control, preserving the integrity of the home from the ground up.
Next, we tackled the structural concerns by installing the SmartJack support system. These galvanized steel support posts were carefully placed and adjusted to lift and stabilize the sagging floors above. With the SmartJack system in place, floor bounce was eliminated, alignment was improved, and the homeowner could rest assured their home had the support it needed moving forward.
The result was a safer, drier, and structurally sound home with restored confidence in the integrity of its foundation.
