Basement Finishing Photo Album: Basement Finishing Project in Townsend, DE
Lots of contractors who know how to hang drywall think they have the expertise to finish a basement. After all, it’s pretty easy. But basements are different. The colder surface temperatures of the walls and the floor, as well as the high humidity, make finishing a basement very difficult. The additional problems of eventual flooding due to sump pump failure, hot water heater leaks, toilet overflow, ice maker line leaks, washing machine hose leaks, and other plumbing leaks make finishing a basement very complicated. One thing is for sure: drywall and fiberglass insulation should never be used in basements. Even if you don’t have any floods, the high humidity will cause mold to grow on these organic materials. If nothing else, within a few years, your basement will start to smell like mold.
For this reason, our company never uses organic materials when finishing basements. On this job, you can see that we used a different type of wallboard, which is called Everlast Wall. Everlast Wall is 100% inorganic and comes with a 50-year warranty against water damage, and will never have mold growth. We also used an inorganic wood-look flooring that comes with a guarantee against water damage.
The installation of a SaniDry super dehumidifier guarantees that the basement will never feel damp. This is something that most basements need, especially if you plan on finishing. The standard store-bought units readily available are not powerful enough to do the job. The SaniDry is 7-9 times more powerful than a regular dehumidifier. We also installed our WaterGuard perimeter drainage system along with a SuperSump with Battery Backup to guarantee that the basement will never flood from foundation seepage.
