Basement Waterproofing and Finishing in Jamaica, NY
Challenge
In Jamaica, a homeowner contacted us with an all-too-common problem: a damp, outdated basement that felt more like a liability than usable space. With plans to transform the area into a comfortable, finished extension of the home, persistent moisture was a major obstacle. The basement had a history of dampness, and during wet seasons, water intrusion made storage risky and long-term finishing plans unrealistic. The homeowner wanted not just a quick fix, but a permanent waterproofing solution that would allow them to confidently invest in remodeling without worrying about future damage.
Our process began with a thorough evaluation by our System Design Specialist. During the inspection, we identified areas where water was seeping in at the foundation wall-floor joint and determined that hydrostatic pressure around the perimeter was the main contributor to the moisture problem. Because the homeowner intended to fully finish the basement, it was critical that the waterproofing system be both highly reliable and discreet.
Solution
To solve the issue, we installed our WaterGuard interior drainage system along the basement perimeter. This sub-floor system was carefully placed beneath the slab to intercept water at its entry point, before it could reach the basement floor. WaterGuard is specifically engineered to avoid clogging from soil and debris, ensuring long-term performance. All captured water was directed to a newly installed TripleSafe Sump Pump system. The TripleSafe provides three layers of protection: a primary pump for everyday water removal, a secondary pump for high-volume situations, and a battery backup pump to keep the system operational during power outages. Together, these systems created a comprehensive waterproofing solution designed to handle everything from routine groundwater seepage to severe storms.
Once the basement was fully protected and tested for performance, the transformation truly began. With the waterproofing complete, we finished the basement using EverLast wall panels and flooring. EverLast wall systems are mold-resistant, durable, and specifically designed for basement environments, they will not absorb moisture or support mold growth like traditional drywall. The finished flooring complemented the system, providing a clean, modern look while maintaining moisture resistance. The visual difference was dramatic! What was once a dark, damp, and outdated basement became a bright, comfortable living space ready for family use.
