Waterproofing a Wet Basement in Berkeley Heights, NJ
Challenge
A homeowner in Berkeley Heights, NJ was preparing to fully furnish their partially finished basement but had concerns about water seepage during heavy rain events. While the basement did not flood regularly, periods of significant rainfall would cause water to seep in through certain sections of the block foundation walls. Because block walls are porous and can allow moisture to pass through under hydrostatic pressure, the issue was likely to worsen over time if left unaddressed. The homeowner understood that investing in flooring, drywall, furniture, and decor without first resolving the water intrusion would be risky. They wanted a permanent, professional waterproofing system that would protect the entire basement perimeter, not just the visibly affected spots.
During our evaluation, we observed signs of intermittent seepage along multiple sections of the block foundation walls. The size of the basement meant that groundwater pressure could build up at various points around the perimeter. We explained that even if water only appeared in certain areas, the entire foundation should be protected to prevent future weak points. Because the basement was partially finished, we also needed to design a system that would provide complete protection while minimizing disruption to the space.
Solution
To provide full, long-term protection, we installed:
-
WaterGuard Interior Drainage System (Full Perimeter): Installed along the entire basement perimeter to intercept groundwater at the wall-to-floor joint before it enters the living space. This ensures that water is captured no matter where it attempts to seep in.
-
TripleSafe Sump Pump System: A three-pump system including a primary pump, secondary pump, and battery backup pump. This provides continuous protection even during severe storms or power outages.
Our WaterGuard system directs collected water directly into the TripleSafe sump pump, which then safely discharges it away from the home’s foundation. Together, these systems create a complete waterproofing network beneath the basement floor. Following installation, the basement is now fully protected around its entire perimeter. Water that previously seeped in during heavy rain is now intercepted and redirected before it can reach finished areas. The homeowner can confidently proceed with furnishing and completing the basement without fear of future water damage.
