Transforming a Damp Crawl Space in Princeton, NJ
Challenge
A homeowner in Princeton, NJ was dealing with persistent water intrusion in their crawl space. During rainy weather, water would seep into the area beneath the home, leading to moisture buildup and a strong musty odor that traveled throughout the house. This raised concerns not just about comfort but about the long-term impact on the home’s structure, indoor air quality, and energy efficiency. Recognizing the seriousness of the problem, the homeowner contacted Quality 1st for a lasting, professional solution.
Solution
After receiving the request, we scheduled a thorough inspection with one of our experienced System Design Specialists, Brandon. The evaluation revealed several key issues: moisture infiltration, poor insulation, and lack of proper humidity control. To resolve this, we designed a customized plan aimed at protecting the crawl space and improving overall home health.
First, we installed the CleanSpace Crawl Space Encapsulation System. This durable, 20-mil vapor barrier sealed the ground and walls, effectively preventing groundwater and humidity from entering the crawl space. Next, we improved the thermal efficiency and vapor protection with SilverGlo Crawl Space Wall Insulation. Its built-in radiant barrier and R-11 insulation value added superior energy savings while also preventing further moisture penetration through the crawl space walls.
To address the high humidity and airborne allergens, we added the SaniDry Sedona, a high-performance dehumidifier engineered specifically for crawl spaces and basements. With its ability to maintain humidity below 55%, it ensured cleaner, drier air circulated throughout the home.
With all systems in place, the crawl space was completely transformed! The space is now dry, insulated, and protected.
