A homeowner in Califon, New Jersey was experiencing water coming in through their basement and puddling on the floors. This happens because of the poorly compacted, backfilled soil around the foundation. This poorly compacted soil becomes saturated during heavy rainfall, which creates hydrostatic pressure, pushing water through the walls. This can have many negative effects such as smelly carpets, mold growth, dust mites, and increased energy bills. The homeowner contacted Quality 1st Basement Systems and our System Design Specialist, Jonathan Seminerio, was able to provide an inspection. He suggested they do a half wall demo, install a vapor barrier system, a French drain system, as well as a new sump pump system. Our foreman, Juan Garcia, installed the CleanSpace Vapor Barrier System, which is thick like a pool liner and will prevent moisture from getting into the basement and will also drain water behind it. Next, the foreman installed the WaterGuard Drain System along the perimeter of the wall. This system sits on top of the foundation footing, instead of alongside it. This is important because it keeps the mud from getting into the drain since the drain does not sit in the mud. Lastly, the foreman installed the TripleSafe Sump Pump System, which has three pumps in one sump liner. The third pump is a battery-operated pump that will kick in if the power goes out. This sump pump will effectively pump out water to prevent the basement from water damage.
