Custom Waterproofing Solution For a Basement in Wilmington, DE
Challenge
A Wilmington, DE homeowner was facing more than a simple basement water problem. The unfinished basement had multiple horizontal and vertical cracks in the foundation and block walls, and during heavy rain, water was entering through the bottom of the walls. The existing sump pump and French drains were not enough to prevent flooding, and the amount of incoming water could overwhelm the sump if it was not caught in time. Because of the visible foundation cracks and continuing water intrusion, the homeowner wanted to understand the extent of the problem and address both the structural concerns and the basement's ongoing moisture issues.
Solution
Foreman Bernie and our team at Quality 1st Basement Systems installed a comprehensive system designed to address the different conditions affecting the basement. CleanSpace was installed along the full perimeter of the foundation walls to create a durable moisture barrier, while WaterGuard was installed around the full perimeter to collect water entering at the foundation and direct it toward the sump system. Five CarbonArmor straps were installed in the problem area to reinforce the foundation wall and help resist further inward movement. The existing sump pump was replaced with a SuperSump to provide a reliable point for removing collected water, and a SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier was added to help manage humidity in the basement. Rather than treating the flooding, moisture, and foundation concerns as separate problems, the completed system brings drainage, water removal, structural reinforcement, and moisture control together in one comprehensive basement solution.
