Addressing Basement Dampness in Elkton, MD
Challenge
In Elkton, a homeowner had begun noticing dampness developing throughout their unfinished basement. The exposed block foundation walls were showing visible signs of moisture, creating concerns about future water intrusion, humidity, and potential damage to the space over time. Like many unfinished basements, the area lacked a complete waterproofing system to properly manage groundwater and moisture entering through the foundation walls. Without proper drainage and protection, the homeowner worried that the damp conditions could continue to worsen, especially during periods of heavy rainfall. Looking for a permanent and reliable solution, the homeowner contacted our team to fully assess the basement and recommend the best approach for long-term protection.
Solution
After completing a thorough inspection, our team designed a complete basement waterproofing system tailored to the needs of the home. The project began with the installation of our WaterGuard drainage system along the perimeter of the basement. Installed just beneath the floor surface, WaterGuard captures water entering through the wall-floor joint and channels it directly toward the sump pump system before it can reach the basement floor. To handle water removal, we installed the TripleSafe sump pump system. This advanced system provides multiple layers of protection using three pumps within one, including backup protection for periods of heavy water intrusion or power outages. To further improve the environment, CleanSpace vapor barrier material was installed along the basement walls. This helps isolate the basement from moisture entering through the block foundation walls while also creating a cleaner and brighter appearance throughout the unfinished space. With all systems working together, the basement was transformed into a cleaner, drier, and more protected environment.
