Waterproofing Solution For a Basement in Belford, NJ
Challenge
In Belford, a homeowner was dealing with an ongoing and frustrating issue: water infiltrating their partially finished basement. The space, which was intended to be used for everyday living and activities, was at risk of damage due to repeated moisture intrusion. Water entering a finished or semi-finished basement is especially concerning, as it can lead to damage of flooring, walls, and personal belongings, while also creating an environment conducive to mold and mildew growth. The homeowner initially believed a traditional French drain might be the best solution, but wanted a professional assessment before moving forward. They reached out to our team at Quality 1st Basement Systems, where our System Design Specialist, Andrew was sent to evaluate the situation. After a thorough inspection, it became clear that the issue required a more comprehensive and reliable waterproofing approach than a standard exterior drain system could provide.
Solution
Based on the inspection, our team designed a complete interior waterproofing system tailored to the home’s specific needs. The solution focused on managing water at the point of entry, directing it safely away, and protecting the basement environment from future moisture issues. The installation began with the WaterGuard drainage system, placed along the perimeter of the basement floor. Installed just above the foundation footing and beneath the surface of the floor, WaterGuard is designed to capture water seepage from both the walls and floor joint before it can enter the living space. Unlike traditional systems, it is engineered to resist clogging, ensuring consistent, long-term performance. Captured water is then directed into the TripleSafe sump pump system, which was installed to provide reliable and continuous protection. This system features three levels of defense, including a primary pump for everyday conditions, a secondary pump for increased water volume, and a battery backup pump that continues to operate during power outages. This layered approach ensures the basement remains protected even during heavy storms or unexpected failures.
To further enhance the space, CleanSpace was installed along the basement walls. This durable vapor barrier system helps seal out moisture, brightens the appearance of the basement, and creates a cleaner, more controlled environment. By reducing humidity and preventing moisture from entering through the walls, CleanSpace plays a key role in protecting against mold and mildew. With all components working together, the basement was transformed into a dry, protected, and usable space.
