Job Stories From Hunterdon County, NJ
Replacing a Basement Window in Oldwick, NJ

Like many homeowners, Bob in Oldwick, NJ wasn't satisfied with his basement window. The window frame was old, rusty, and sometimes leaked moisture into the basement. Cold drafts came through the window in winter, and hot air in summer. He wanted a new basement window that he wouldn't have to worry about.

Quality 1st Basement Systems installed a vinyl framed basement window. Since the frame is vinyl, it is waterproof and will never rot or rust. It loosk fresh, modern, and up to date. On top of the window, foreman Jesus Alvarez-Sanchez and his crew installed a window well. The clear window well allows light to shine in through the window, but prevents dirt, snow, and water from coming in. It is bright and attractive, giving this basement window an instant facelift. Bob was impressed with how fast installation was and how clean the crew was. They tidied up after installation and left Bob's house with him feeling great about his choice.

Bringing Relief to a New Homeowner in Long Branch, NJ

The excitement that comes with purchasing a new home is unmatched.  Imagine, however, that during a heavy rain, you notice the basement in your dream home starting to accumulate water.  A homeowner in Long Branch found himself in such a situation. He contacted Quality 1st Basement Systems to schedule a free estimate from a company with expertise in waterproofing.

One of Quality 1st’s waterproofing specialists, Dan McNally, proposed a waterproofing system tailored to meet the homeowner’s basement waterproofing needs.  He included a full-perimeter WaterGuard system, both an UltraSump and SuperSump sump pump, and a FloodRing.  The WaterGuard is a sub-floor drainage system which directs wall seepage to the pumps for discharge.  Installation of a FloodRing around the water heater is a preventative measure to contain any water leakage and direct it to the WaterGuard.

With the efficient waterproofing system installed by a production crew, the new homeowner was surely happy that Quality 1st Basement Systems helped alleviate his worries about water in his basement!

Flood Protection for a Basement in Readington, NJ

Water in the basement doesn’t have to flood in to be a nuisance.  Matt P. of Whitehouse Station knew that too well.  He owned the home for five years, all the time experiencing a slow seepage through the walls, but enough was enough.  He searched for professional help and found Quality 1st Basement Systems.

Waterproofing specialist Ken Peare visited Matt’s home, completed a thorough interior and exterior inspection of the home, answered Matt’s questions, and designed a basement waterproofing system that included the best options for meeting Matt’s needs. He provided a free written estimate for the proposed work as well, leaving the homeowner everything he needed to make a well-informed decision.

A TripleSafe sump pump was proposed as it includes an efficient primary pump, a back-up pump (in case the first one fails or if there is a need for extra pumping power), and a third battery-operated pump (designed to kick in if the power goes out).  The pump is installed and connected to a full perimeter WaterGuard to channel any incoming moisture. IceGuards installed also prevent a flood in the event that the discharge lines freeze during the colder months and a LawnScape Outlet discreetly disperses water on the lawn, away from the foundation of the home. This method of removing water intruding into the basement made sense to Matt.

Further protection added included Flood Check Hoses to prevent a flood disaster from washing machine backup and a Flood Ring around the water heater, to direct water to the WaterGuard in the event that the water heater leaks or breaks down.

Additionally, Matt wanted to replace the old basement windows.  He opted for new vinyl Everlast Windows as well as new SunHouse Window Wells, to bring more natural light into the basement area while keeping water, dirt, and debris out of the wells.

Last on the list of helping to keep the basement drier, Ken proposed the installation of a SaniDry XP.  This ultra-efficient dehumidifier and air purification system removes moisture from the air and blows out a dry air into the space. This system was designed to keep the humidity levels below 50%, reducing the chance for mold to grow.  Additionally, it contains a two-stage filter system to eliminate dust particles from the air.

Matt dealt with a continually damp basement from water seeping through the walls for five years, but Quality 1st Basement Systems helped Matt attain a greater level of relief from these problems.  He could have peace of mind knowing his basement space is being kept drier and healthier for his family’s sake from thereon after.

Waterproofing a Basement in Quakertown, NJ

This Quakertown family was experiencing water intrusion in the basement. The homeowners had been using the basement for storage and during a very heavy rain the basement flooded.  Some of their belongings were damaged during the flood, in addition to the walls and floor.

Jeff Nero was assigned the duty to come out and evaluate the basement and provide a permanent solution for this family. He performed a complete assessment of the basement and recommended the Waterguard Basement Waterproofing System, the TripleSafe Sump Pump System, and the SaniDry Air System. The WaterGuard and the TripleSafe work together to keep the basement dry at all times. The SaniDry Air System is a high-performance dehumidifier that eliminates musty odors and filters the air.

Quality 1st Basement Systems created a safe environment in the basement for this Quakertown family. This basement can now store the most valuable belongings without the family fearing of future damages of their things.

Crawl Space Vapor Barrier System installed in Lambertville, NJ

Quality 1st Basement Systems was referred to a Lambertville homeowner by a neighbor who was experiencing similar concerns in their crawl space and had Quality 1st out to provide a solution. The crawl space had a musty odor and was very damp and cold. An appointment was made to have System Design Specialist, Ken Peare, out to inspect the problem in the area and design a solution.

Ken Peare noticed efflorescence on certain walls of the crawl space indicating that water had come through. He recommended waterproofing and encapsulation to completely seal off the crawl space from water, cold air and animals . Ken also recommended a dehumidifier to allow proper circulation of dry air throughout the space as well.

Quality 1st Foreman, Melvin Cardoza and his crew installed WaterGuard on the footing of the foundation above the mud zone to prevent dirt from clogging the french drain. The WaterGuard directs the water straight to the SmartSump Pump when is specifically design for the crawlspace area. What makes this Sump pump the perfect fit is it's special lid that detects plumbing leaks. The water from the leak will fill an alarm pocket which will sound a WaterWAtch that will notify you of this leak.

The crew installed SilverGlo insulation that has a heat barrier which keeps the heat in the crawlspace during cold months. SilverGlo is a great energy savor because it helps heat the home faster making it a great product for this damp and cold crawl space. Cleanspace was applied over the SilverGlo to prevent water vapor and humidity from passing through providing the crawl space with ultimate protection. This tough liner will keep dirt, water and animals out, allowing the homeowner to use this space as storage if needed.

The homeowner was very pleased with the work done by Quality 1st and the crew that they too referrer Quality 1st Basement Systems to people they know are experiencing problems in their basements and crawl space.

Providing a Resolution to Basement Water Intrusion in Pittstown, NJ

A couple renting a home in Pittstown found water seeping into their basement on the driveway side of the home time and time again.  They wanted to invest in the home for purchase, but they needed to be sure that the basement water problems could be resolved first.  They contacted Quality 1st Basement Systems to schedule a free estimate appointment.

Ken Peare, a Quality 1st Basement Waterproofing Specialist, visited the home, completed a thorough interior and exterior inspection of the basement, and determined the best solution to the water problems being experienced in this home.  He provided a free estimate for the proposed work after answering all questions and addressing any concerns.

Installation of a WaterGuard System along the problem wall would effectively channel and direct any water seepage to the sump pump.  A SuperSump sump pump would efficiently and reliably remove water from the basement area, while an UltraSump Battery Backup System would provide continued flood protection in the event of a power outage.  While the SuperSump’s powerful cast-iron pump is capable of removing 2,220 gallons of water per hour, the UltraSump backup pump will pump 11,500 gallons of water per hour on a full charge.  Additionally, an IceGuard installation would prevent flooding in the event of frozen discharge pipes.

The couple moved forward with the purchase of the home and had Quality 1st Basement Systems ease their worries by completing the waterproofing installation.  Quality 1st Basement Systems was glad to help the concerned couple with a resolution to their rainy day problems!

A homeowner from Stockton, NJ felt his home was secure from flooding.  Joe C., the homeowner, already had drains installed around the perimeter of his basement and he had a sump pump to discharge accumulated water.  For five or six years, the system seemed to be working for him and had no problems with water in the basement.  That was until his basement flooded during hurricane Irene.  18” of water filled his basement during the weather catastrophe!  Afterwards, during a heavy rain, his basement filled again, this time with only 3”-4” of water.  But water should not be flooding in a basement equipped with a drainage system and sump pumps, should it?

Joe needed an expert waterproofing opinion on his dilemma.  He just so happened to have an acquaintance who had referred him to Quality 1st Basement Systems.  Joe called and arranged to have a no obligation, free estimate.  A certified waterproofing specialist visited Joe C. to complete a thorough interior and exterior inspection and provide a free estimate for the best solution to meet his needs.  The specialist proposed the installation of two TripleSafe Sump Pump Systems to manage the influx of water to the basement that Joe was experiencing during heavy rains.

The flood protection provided in each system includes a powerful cast-iron primary pump which can discharge 2,220 gallons of water per hour while the secondary pump can kick in if needed to pump an additional 3,900 gallons of water per hour out of the basement.  The battery backup sump pump is capable of pumping 11,500 gallons of water on a single battery charge.

Joe C. wanted peace of mind.  He didn’t want to deal with any more basement flooding.  Joe was presented with an excellent system as well as a Preferred Customer Discount.  With Quality 1st Basement Systems’ help, he was able to attain the level of flood protection that he needed for his home in Stockton, NJ, extra-affordably priced!

High Bridge homeowner contacted Quality 1st Basement Systems when they noticed their front steps of their home had started to sink. Jeffrey measured roughly 4 inches of settlement from the steps original position. He reassured the homeowner that they would not have to replace the steps since PolyLevel would be the perfect solution to raise them.

Project Manager, Arturo Jacuinde and his crew injected PolyLevel underneath the concrete steps. Once underneath, PolyLevel begins to expand and harden raising the steps to level. The crew is very careful when injecting the foam, so that the steps are raised to the correct amount. The homeowner was amazed to see how easy it was to raise the steps and relieved that they wouldn’t have to be replaced. Sinking Sidewalk in Clinton, NJ

Quality 1st Basements was contacted by a homeowner from Clinton, NJ to lift and level several sinking slabs in front of their home. Quality 1st was able to send Concrete Repair Specialist, Andy Gagliardi out to inspect the slabs and offer a permanent solution. Andy did a full inspection of the concrete around the entire outside of the home and noticed multiple sinking sidewalk slabs located in the front of the home with settlement up to 4 inches. In the backyard around the pool area, Andy measured roughly 2 to 2 1/2 inches of settlement. These tripping hazards could cause a serious injury so Andy completely understood why the homeowner was so eager to have these looks at.

Andy recommended PolyLevel Injection foam to raise the settled concrete slabs. Small penny-sized holes are drilled into each concrete slab then PolyLevel is injected underneath. The foam expands then hardens rasing the slab back to its original state, removing the tripping hazard.

Tripping Hazard Removed in Annandale, NJ

It was the end of spring and summer was approaching. Kim's husband had been outside one afternoon checking the pool to make sure no damage was done over the winter since he was considering opening the pool early. When he removed the pool cover he noticed that he had two large slabs that had settled around the stairs. It not only created a gap but a big trip hazard. Knowing Kim would probably trip he googled tripping hazard removal and discovered an ad for Quality 1st Basements. Giving the number to Kim, she decdied to call the next day for a free estimate.

Concrete Repair Specialist, Andy Gagliardi did a full inspection of the pool area to make sure those slabs were the only ones experiencing settlement. The first slab was settled about an inch or so but the second slab had settled almost 4 inches. Andy told Kim and her husband that the best way to remove the tripping hazard would be inject PolyLevel underneath the slabs. PolyLevel is a foam that once underneath, expands and hardens raising the slab back to level. Not only is it cost efficient but the foam would permanently stabilize the slabs to prevent further settlement.

Our team came in raised the slabs back to their original level and within 15 minutes after the crew was done, Kim's husband was able to remove the pool cover and begin cleaning their pool.

Raised Porch in Annandale, NJ

It was one morning after Jane put her kids on the bus when she sat down to drink her morning coffee and noticed sections of her front porch had begun to sink and settle. Worried that the porch would continue to sink, Jane contacted Quality 1st Basements for a free estimate to have one of our Concrete Repair Specialists out to inspect the concrete settlement and offer a permanent solution. Customer Service Representative, Christine, set an appointment for Jane to meet with Jeff. She informed Jane that a packet would be set to her home with customer reviews from her local area, a profile of Jeff so she could learn a little bit more about him and also know what he looks like. Christine also sent Jane our Concrete Lifting & Leveling book that had everything she needed to know about why her porch was sinking and how Quality 1st could help.

At the time of the inspection, Jeff measured the settlement of the porch to be roughly 2 inches in one section and a little over 3 in another. He explained that because concrete is heavy and sometimes the soil underneath can no longer support the weight of the slab that the slab sinks. He then recommend PolyLevel, a polyurethane foam that is injected through penny-size holes, down underneath the slab. The foam then expands, raising the slab back to level. Once the slab is at its original state the foam begins to harden to permanently stabilize the slab. Jane was amazed that within 15 minutes of Foreman Arturo raising the porch, she was able to not only stand on it but put all her furniture back.

Flooded Basement in Readington, NJ

After just 2 straight days of rain, Robert's basement in his Readington, NJ home flooded with almost an inch of water. In all the years hes lived there, he never once had signs of water issues and so he wanted someone out right away for a solution.

Mike explained to Robert that our team would install a full perimeter waterproofing system consisting of a WaterGuard Drainage system that would collect  the water seeping in from the wall or floor and direct it over the the TripleSafe Sump pump that is installed in the deepest part of the basement. Both products together would not only prevent future leaks and flooding from ever occurring but also keep the basement healthy since it would prevent moisture and mold from forming.

Sinking Pool Area in Flemington, NJ Raised by Quality 1st

The concrete slabs around Virginia's pool area were sinking and settling which caused multiple tripping hazards. Fearing one of her small children would trip and fall into the pool, she decided to search for a solution. Looking to Google for a reliable company, she came across Quality 1st Basements, the local experts in sinking and settling concrete. Customer Service Representative, Kelly, asked a few short questions to make sure she fully understood the concrete concerns Virginia was having and was able to schedule the soonest available appointment with Concrete Repair specialist, Andy G.

Andy G. did a full inspection of the pool area and noticed a total of 8 sinking slabs that had settled roughly an inch to two inches. He assured Virginia that PolyLevel foam would be the perfect solution since it could raise the existing slab back to level instead of removing and replacing the concrete. The foam is injected underneath the slab filling the void underneath which caused the settling. The foam expands lifting the concrete then hardens to permanently stabilize it. The Quality 1st crew was able to lift and level the entire pool area and within 15 minutes of the team cleaning up, the family was able to use the pool.

Signs of Foundation Settlement Resulted in a Phone Call to Quality 1st Basements!

Jake from Annandale, NJ had multiple signs that his foundation was settling. He noticed wall cracks in the exterior brick and changes in the way the doors and windows of his home opened and closed. Down in his basement his foundation walls had stair-step cracks with one specific wall starting to bow inward. Looking for a local Foundation Specialist to save his investment and give him peace of mind again, he contacted Quality 1st Basements. Senior Design Specialist, Ken Peare went out to meet with Jake, run a full inspection of his foundation and design the best solution possible for what he was experiencing.

Most homeowners don't know too much about foundation settlement and so it's important to us that we educate each homeowner with enough information to understand why they have this issue and why we recommend our solution. Ken explained to Jake that when a house is built compacted soil is then back filled around the foundation to fill the hole. That compacted soil is not as strong as the virgin soil that was once there. Over time that soil can no longer hold the weight of the home causing the home to shift and settle. In the process, cracks form, doors stick, walls bow and your foundation is now compromised.

Ken Recommended Push Piers for they stabilize the home's foundation. This solution can also lift the home back towards its original level, closing cracks and improving the operations of the doors and windows. The soil is removed from around the foundations footing, where the pier will be installed. Each Push Pier is hydraulically driven into stable soil. The weight of the home is transferred from the concrete foundation, through the steel bracket and piers, to the deep load- bearing soil. Next the team will attempt to lift the home back towards its original position. Once completed and foundation is stabilized the soil is back filled, the entire system is hidden in the  ground and your home is in its new position.

With the help of Ken Peare and Quality 1st Basements, we were able to give Jake peace of mind that his family is now safe in their home and he has peace of mind that his biggest investment, his home is now stabilized!

Nasty Crawl Space in Stanton, NJ Waterproofed

We were contacted by a couple who just recently bought their first home. The crawl space needed a lot of work. There were major signs of mold and water seepage. The crawl space vents were open, allowing moisture, humidity and pests inside. Overall the space was very unhealthy and the musty odor coming from the crawl space was making its way up through the air vents into the home. The couple knew that the concerns they had would only grow if they waited longer to repair their crawl space so they called Quality 1st Basements for a free estimate.

System Design Specialist, Javier, went out to meet with the homeowners and design a solution that best fit their crawl space needs. Javier recommended a full perimeter waterproofing system to keep the crawl space dry. He also suggested  closing the crawl space vents to seal the space off from the outside environment. For this crawl space, preventing water and moisture was a top priority and so Javier also recommended our Moisture Vapor Barrier known as CleanSpace.

Our team led by Mario, installed our SmartPipe french drainage system! This is the first custom-engineered french drainage system specifically designed for the crawl space. There are holes on the top and front to allow water seepage to be captured from the soil and surface of the crawl space. The SmartPipe is connected to our one-of-a-kind SmartSump Pump. This system will provide the ultimate protection when it comes to any crawl space. The pump sits inside a liner for protection to prevent failure and malfunction.
