A homeowner in Sea Girt, New Jersey noticed their sidewalk was sinking and becoming unlevel. This happens because concrete is often poured over backfilled soil. Over time, this loose soil settles and creates voids under the concrete. As you can see in the picture, this sidewalk is a very dangerous tripping hazard because a resident can easily trip and hurt themselves.
The homeowner contacted Quality 1st Basement Systems and our System Design Specialist, Jeff Pitek, was able to provide an inspection and help them find a plan. Upon his inspection of the site, Jeff saw how unlevel the concrete was. He suggested they use polyurethane foam to fill the voids underneath the slab.
Our foreman, Sean Johnson, used the PolyLevel Injection System to be injected underneath the concrete. This is done by drilling small, penny-sized holes and injecting the polyurethane foam into the slab, and into the voids. PolyLevel is a lightweight, waterproof, and environmentally friendly solution so it will not add weight to the existing soil, and will not wash out. This process is quick and does not require heavy equipment or disturbance.
When the job was done, the homeowner was shocked at the difference in the sidewalk. They were able to walk on it safely without tripping.
