A homeowner in Windsor, New Jersey noticed their sidewalk was sinking and settling. This can be a problem because tripping over uneven sections near a pool can be a dangerous safety hazard. Spills on concrete can cause serious injuries to people's backs, bones, and their head. This can open unwanted liability if it causes injuries to family and friends.
Sinking and settling in concrete happens because concrete is often poured over recently backfilled soil. Over time, this loose soil settles and creates voids under the concrete. As you can see in the picture, the concrete was cracking and sinking into the soil.
The homeowner contacted Quality 1st Basement Systems, and our System Design Specialist, Jay Alvarez, was able to help them with a solution to this issue. He suggested they inject polyurethane foam into the concrete slab to lift and level it.
Our foreman, Sean Andreas Johnson, used the PolyLevel Injections under the slab. This is done by drilling tiny holes in the concrete and injecting the polyurethane into the void. Doing this will provide an accurate lift and leveling of the concrete slab. Now, the homeowner does not have to worry about tripping hazards.
