A homeowner in South Orange, New Jersey was experiencing water seeping into their crawl space walls and floor. This occurs when the soil around the home is poorly compacted and becomes saturated during heavy rainfall. This wet soil creates hydrostatic pressure which pushes water to seep through the walls and floor. This can have many negative effects such as musty smells, mold growth, increased energy bills, and even pests.
The homeowner contacted Quality 1st Basement Systems and our System Design Specialist, JC Gibriano, was able to provide an inspection and help them find a solution to this issue. Upon his inspection when he arrived at the site, JC noticed how the crawl space was attracting moisture. He suggested they install a vapor barrier system throughout the crawl space to seal the crawl space from the earth.
Our foreman, Luis Aguirre, arrived on the site to install the CleanSpace Vapor Barrier System. This system is thick and durable like a pool liner and will ensure that water and moisture stay out of the crawl space. This is installed by removing any debris in the crawl space, leveling uneven surfaces, carefully fitting the system to the crawl space, and then securing it with drilled-in spikes and fasteners. CleanSpace gives the crawl space a bright appearance and is also mold-proof and water-proof.
When the job was complete, the homeowner was pleased with the outcome. Their crawl space was transformed into a healthy space for storage, and they did not have to worry about mold or water getting inside.
Unfortunately, John M. from South Orange, NJ found his dehumidifier running constantly in his basement. Worse than that was the fact that this ever-running dehumidifier wasn’t doing its job; the constant wet, musty basement smell was creeping upstairs! John wanted a permanent fix for this problem. He happened to find Quality 1st Basement Systems in his internet search and, with nothing to lose, he scheduled an appointment for a free inspection and estimate to find out more about more powerful and energy-efficient dehumidifiers and sump pumps.
After the thorough interior and exterior inspection, Quality 1st Basement System’s waterproofing specialist answered John’s questions and addressed his concerns. He then presented the best solution to meet John’s needs.
Installation of the ultra-efficient SaniDry Basement Air System was proposed to replace John’s dehumidifier that was inefficient and wasting energy. It is designed to remove moisture from the air and blow out a dry air into the space, keeping the humidity levels below 50%, reducing the chance for mold to grow. Additionally, a SuperSump Premier Sump Pump System with its powerful cast-iron pump was proposed for installation as it is capable of pumping 2,220 gallons of water out of the basement per hour. A LawnScape Outlet was also recommended, designed to move water from the discharge line out and away from the home, to be discreetly dispersed on the lawn.
Putting an end to dampness and musty smells was just what John had in mind. Quality 1st Basement Systems installed the reliable and efficient systems to alleviate John’s worries about the health of his basement and the rest of his home.
