Job Stories From Howard County, MD
Egress Window Install in Hanover, MD

Customer had their finished basement turned into a living space, but before they could legally call it a living space, there needed to be an emergency exit. The best solution for this is to install an Egress window. Not only does an Egress make for a safe and easy exit in case of an emergency, but an Egress window also allows a lot of natural light.

There was no pre-existing window in the area where the customer requested the Egress, so we had to first cut through the poured concrete wall. Once we cut out and framed the area for the Egress, we then jumped right into the installation. The installation consisted of a 48x48 Slider Egress Window and a 66x36 RockWell Window Well. The Rockwell Window Well resembles the look of real stone and is constructed so that it will not collapse from backfill or allow water to leak through the well walls.

In the case that the well does fill up with water, whether due to a flood or water leaking from the porch above, we did install a well duct in the interior of the wall. The well duct will flow any water that leaks into the basement from the Egress, over to their existing waterproofing system to be pumped out.

An emergency exit in play and some natural lighting, this customer now has all of the finishing touches for this basement living space.

What began as a musty odor and soft, sagging floors quickly turned into a major concern. In Ellicott City, MD, a homeowner became severely overwhelmed by ongoing water intrusion in their crawl space. The area had become increasingly damp, musty, and structurally compromised, creating not only discomfort but also the potential for long-term damage. Frustrated by the persistent issues and worried about the impact on their home’s health and value, they reached out to Quality 1st Basement Systems in search of a permanent solution.

Upon inspection, our crawl space experts found clear signs of moisture infiltration: wet and exposed soil, deteriorating insulation, and high humidity levels contributing to mold risk and poor air quality. To address the issue thoroughly, we designed a customized waterproofing plan featuring our CleanSpace Vapor Barrier System. This system includes a durable, 20-mil thick liner that’s sealed tightly along the walls, piers, and floor to create a continuous barrier against ground moisture. The CleanSpace system not only isolates the home from the earth but also creates a cleaner, drier, and more energy-efficient environment underneath the home.

Once installed, the transformation was immediate. The crawl space was dry, brighter, and far more structurally protected. Humidity levels dropped, odors disappeared, and the homeowner gained peace of mind knowing their home was now safeguarded against future moisture issues. With CleanSpace in place, they no longer had to worry about the hidden damage lurking below their home, just a clean, healthy crawl space built to last!
