This Maplewood basement would flood when it would rain. The water caused damage to the homeowner's property especially the carpeting which grew mold and smelled. Quality 1st Basement Systems waterproofed the basement using WaterGuard. To refinish the basement floors, ThermalDry flooring, which cannot be damaged by water, was installed giving the basement a fresh, new look with the peace of mind that the flooring will last.

This homeowner was trying to sell the home but the home inspector informed them that to sell, they would need to install a Vapor Barrier System to the dirt floor of the crawl space. Quality 1st Basement System installed a Vapor Barrier System to the floor and walls of the crawl space to seal it off from the outside environment. Now the crawl space is  moisture, water vapor and mold resistant which will protect the home and make it easier to sell.

Job Stories From Maplewood, NJ
A Permanent Solution to Groundwater Seepage in Maplewood, NJ

An unfinished basement in Maplewood was used as many other basements are, for doing laundry and for storage.  The observant homeowner, however, noticed that in some areas of the walls, a yellowish discoloration was becoming gradually more evident, even though the walls were painted.  Some of the paint was even starting to bubble in places.  Wanting to put a stop to this seepage of groundwater, Amy searched the internet for help.  She used Angie’s list as a tool to find a top-rated company, she came across waterproofing experts Quality 1st Basement Systems.  She called to arrange a free inspection and estimate appointment.

Quality 1st Basement Systems scheduled a waterproofing specialist to visit the homeowner and complete a thorough interior and exterior inspection of the basement.  He asked Amy some questions, answered hers, and then set out to provide the best solution to meet her needs.  He explained his recommendation and provided her with a free written estimate so she could make a well-informed decision about resolving her basement moisture problems.

Amy decided to have Quality 1st Basement Systems provide the permanent solution as proposed and as backed up by a warranty. The installation crew mobilized to Maplewood to fix the homeowner’s basement.  They installed a full-perimeter WaterGuard (to channel and direct any water seepage) and a TrenchLock trench drain (which spans doorways to collect water from outside and connects to the WaterGuard).   In addition, a TripleSafe Sump Pump System was installed.  The TripleSafe system was proposed for installation as it includes an efficient primary pump, a back-up pump (in case the first one fails or if there is a need for extra pumping power), and a third battery-operated pump (designed to kick in if the power goes out).  IceGuards were installed on the discharge drains, too, to prevent a flood in the event that the lines freeze during the colder months.  Lastly, a LawnScape Outlet would help to discretely disperse the discharge water out into the lawn, away from the house.

Amy’s worries about groundwater in her basement were eased.  The waterproofing system installed by Quality 1st Basement Systems helped to create a more secure, drier basement.

Foundation Settlement Causes Foundation Cracks in Maplewood, NJ

It’s essential for your home’s foundation to have structural integrity at all times.  Foundation cracks, house settlement, and bowing foundation walls are just a few ways that this can be compromised.  When Rachele H. saw foundation cracks in her basement, she searched online for a foundation repair contractor to fix her problem.

Quality 1st Basement Systems’ foundation repair expert, Dan McNally, met with Rachele H. to assess the foundation cracks.  He determined that the cracks were from foundation settlement and that eight push piers should be installed.  To install the push piers, the foundation is excavated to expose the foundation footing and then heavy-duty steel foundation brackets are secured to your foundation’s footings.  After this, galvanized steel pier sections are hydraulically driven through the bracket to competent soils or bedrock, and then the weight of your home is transferred through the piers to load-bearing strata.

This process guarantees the permanent stabilization of your home’s foundation. Rachele H. no longer has to worry about foundation settlement or foundation cracks that were so apparent when she contacted Quality 1st Basement Systems.  You too can have a safe, stable home with our expertise and top of the line foundation repair products.

Basement Waterproofing with WaterGuard & SuperSump Sump Pump

Linda M. recently purchased a home in Maplewood, NJ and soon after had a flooded basement.  She was referred to Quality 1st Basement Systems by a friend, so she contacted them for a complete waterproofing system.

Basement waterproofing expert Kenneth Peare went out to assess the water problem and recommended the WaterGuard interior basement waterproofing system, SuperSump sump pump, UltraSump batter backup, and IceGuard.  WaterGuard is a drainage channel engineered to specifically solve basement water problems without worry of clogging from soil beneath the basement floor.  This practically designed drainage system is effective in directing the flow of basement water to the SuperSump sump pump system.

Each of these products that was installed works together to keep Linda M.’s basement dry even during harsh weather conditions and heavy rain.  Her basement is no longer a source of stress and is instead a dry, safe space to be in all year round!

CleanSpace Line Creates Crawl Space Vapor Barrier

Crawl space moisture and water were becoming a major problem for Pam H.’s Maplewood, NJ home.  She needed help solving this problem and contracted her local waterproofing experts- Quality 1st Basement Systems.  Kenneth Peare met with Pam H. to check out the crawl space.  He recommended the CleanSpace liner, SaniDry CX, and drainage matting to keep the space completely dry.

Of these products, the homeowner chose to have the CleanSpace liner and Drainage matting installed by Marcello Sanchez and his team of trained installers.  The CleanSpace crawl space liner is a 20-mil crawl space vapor barrier that is installed on the floors and walls of a crawl space area.  This system is durable and long lasting to ensure a healthier, better preserved home.  In combination with the CleanSpace line, our drainage matting is a dimpled plastic mat material that creates a drainage space to help water find its way to the drain line.

Quality 1st Basement Systems knows what will work best to keep your space clean, healthy and dry all year round.  Trust that we have a solution for your home’s crawl space or basement just like we did for Pam H.

I recently purchased this home and have a number of questions/concerns about the basement to address. At the center of the basement is a single car garage. The floor has settled and there are many cracks in the front by the door. During the summer rainy months water does come into the garage in heavy rains because of the amount of the water that comes off the roof and the drainage pitch which is a couple feet from the garage door. The house is also on a significant slope. Things to address: - Structural integrity of the foundation - Eliminating water from garage - Leveling the garage floor, which has differences in heights of up to 4.5 inches and many cracks. The floor has settled down the center, which happens to also be right above the sewage drain. - Leveling of one other section of the basement that seems to have been made sloped for water drainage, though no drain still exists and no water came into the basement this last very rainy summer. - Confirm structural walls to assess possible future finishing work. Thanks, Patrick

Need to waterproof my basement by sealing it
Vicinity of Orchard Road in Maplewood
We purchased the house and did a gut reno including the basement in 2014. We never even saw a trickle of water in the basement until May. Our contractor put in a french drain and then a T-shaped drain that empties to a sump pump to prevent any water. Basement was closed up and finished. In November we started to see some water on one side. We thought it could be some cracks in foundation. Though inspector said foundation was in great shape, some small cracks did exist. We sealed exterior and repaved walkway to pitch away from foundation. Basement was dry up until the end of December. It started at other end of the house and now water has popped up in center. Every time it rains it gets worse. I want to fix the problem before it ruins the finishes that we put in the basement.
