Permanent Crawl Space Repair

For those Richmond residents who have a crawl space instead of a basement we provide similar waterproofing services. To waterproof the bottom of your home we use crawl space encapsulation. Having open, vented crawl spaces in the old building code was a mistake resulting from bad home science. Unfortunately you may have an older home that purposefully has a vented crawl space.

Crawl Space Repair in Staten Island

To fix the problem we seal all the crawl space vents and provide a sealable entrance to the crawl space. We then lay down a thin layer of foam insulation on the floor and rigid foam insulation on the walls. A layer of thick vinyl vapor-barrier is placed on top of the insulation and sealed. The area is now rid of outside air and water. By also installing a crawl space dehumidifier we control the relative humidity of the space preventing mold and rot from developing. You now have a clean, dry crawl space and warm, mold-free floors.

In addition to our crawl space encapsulation and sealing solutions, we offer homeowners of Richmond permanent crawl space repair. If your home is suffering from drywall cracks, uneven floors, doors or windows not properly closing, odds are you have a sinking or sagging crawl space. We offer a wide variety of products and solutions to help improve and permanently repair your home's crawl space

If you are looking to repair your home's crawl space, contact us today for a FREE crawl space repair cost quote!

Warranted Home Foundation Repair

To ensure we have the right tools for your foundation repair project we have a host of different foundation repair products. For bowing walls we use wall anchors to pull the wall back to its original position. If you are property restrictions on the area around your home we can also use I-Beam Wall braces or a carbon wall reinforcing system. For sunken floors over your crawl space we install crawl space support jacks. Finally, if your entire foundation has begun to sink we have foundation piers and slab piers to drill down to load bearing soil and lift your home back to its original position.

We are part of the Foundation Supportworks network which means the foundation repair products that we use have been designed and tested by structural engineers. We know that they work and we provide a 25 year warranty against manufacturing defects. Our installation experts are trained and experienced. You can expect fast installation of a permanent foundation solution.

Concrete Leveling & Lifting in Richmond

Traditionally sunken concrete slabs have been fixed with a method known as mudjacking or slab jacking. This involves drilling large holes into the concrete slab and then pumping a pressurized mud/cement slurry underneath the slab through the holes. The pressured slurry lifts the slab back to its original position and then cures to form a solid base.

Concrete Lifting and Leveling in Staten Island

This method has been used by foundation contractors for years. We have greatly improved the method. Instead of using a thick concrete slurry to lift the slab we use PolyLEVEL, an expansive polyLEVEL foam. In much the same way the foam is injected through holes beneath the slab where it expands to fill any voids and lifts the sunken slab. However, PolyLEVEL has many advantages over traditional mudjacking.

First PolyLEVEL is injected through much smaller holes. It is also much lighter than the slurry which means no additional stress on a weak soil base. It is not biodegradable so it won't be washed away with rainfall. Lastly it cures much, much quicker. While you have to wait days for concrete to cure PolyLEVEL reaches 90% strength in less than an hour! We use PolyLEVEL to fix sunken sidewalks, driveways, stairs, pool decks, patios and more.

Job Stories From Richmond County, NY
WaterGuard Installation in Nutley, NJ

Do you have water coming up from the basement floor and pooling water in the corners?  Well, this is exactly the situation Joyce K. found in her father-in-laws basement.  She contacted her local waterproofing contractor Quality 1st Basement Systems for a free estimate to get the water completely taken care of.

Kenny Tramutola came out to the house and suggested a SuperSump sump pump, LawnScape outlet, IceGuard system that allows water to escape from a sump pump discharge line if the pipe freezes or becomes blocked for any reason, and the WaterGuard interior basement waterproofing system.  The patented WaterGuard waterproofing system is effective because it doesn’t sit in the soil under your basement floor, but instead sits above it to keep from clogging.  This ensures that water will always be able to collect and then drain to the SuperSump and be pumped directly out of the basement.

These waterproofing solutions will keep Joyce K.’s basement dry for years to come.  She will no longer have to worry about basement flooding because of the WaterGuard installation and SuperSump sump pump installation that keep the basement dry no matter what the conditions are.

Heavy Rains Ruin Floor in Finshed Basement

When recent heavy rains flooded a Staten Island basement, ruining the tile floor, the homeowner Elen, called Quality 1st Basement Systems for help. Basement Waterproofing Specialist, Kenny Tramutola, went out to inspect the home and immediately knew what to do.

Kenny recommended the WaterGuard Drainage System. WaterGuard is a specially engineered waterproofing system that won't clog and will keep the basement dry. A TripleSafe Sump Pump was also recommended. The TripleSafe is three sump pumps in one with a battery back up to ensure the sump pump will work even during a power failure. Because the homeowner lived in Staten Island, where temperatures could drop below freezing, Kenny recommended the IceGuard Discharge Line and LawnScape Outlet. IceGuard is designed to keep the system working even on the coldest nights. The LawnScape outlet directs the water away from the home. Together, these systems will work to keep the basement permanently dry.

Foreman, Juan Garcia, and the Quality 1st Waterproofing crew arrived on time and had the system installed in record time. Elen was impressed with their efficiency and how clean they left the basement.

Elen is thrilled to finally have a basement the family can use for recreation and recommends Quality 1st Basement Systems to everyone.

Basement Waterproofing in Staten Island, NY

Edward from Staten Island spent years trying to waterproof his basement, until he finally realized he needed to call in a professional. A friend recommended Quality 1st Basement Systems.

When Waterproofing specialist, Rick Ludlow, arrived at the home he found a vertical crack down one wall that was the major cause of the water seepage. He recommended fixing the crack with FlexSpan and installing the WaterGuard Drainage System. A SuperSump Sump Pump with Ultra Sump Battery Back up would ensure the water was removed from the basement even during a power failure. Rick also recommended an IceGuard Discharge Line which allows the system to keep working even in snow and ice. LawnScape would direct the water away from the home so the water that’s pumped out, stays out.

Quality 1st Foreman, Wilver Cardoza, and his crew arrived right on schedule and installed the waterproofing systems quickly and efficiently. They left the basement clean and dry and the homeowner was very happy. Now, this Staten Island homeowner recommends Quality 1st Basement Systems and the WaterGuard System to everyone!

Finished Staten Island Basement

When Jason from Staten Island decided to refinish his basement he was choosy about the floor. He knew a concrete slab could have water vapor issues even with a waterproofing system installed, so he called Quality 1st Basement Systems. Nick Biris, a System Design Specialist, met with Jason to explain the best options for a dry and healthy basement floor.

Nick recommended the ThermalDry Flooring System. Carpets and wood floors are never a good option for a basement. Water vapor can pass through resulting in soggy carpets, rotting wood and a perfect breeding ground for mold. ThermalDry’s unique design prevents water vapor from passing through and is unaffected by mold. The raised pegs on the bottom of the ThermalDry Flooring create an air space preventing water vapor from getting trapped. ThermalDry comes in tile, carpet, or a wood-look parquet that will suit any décor. Jason chose the Canyon Beige tile, a more neutral color that would go well with the furniture he planned to put in this basement.

Juan Garcia, a Quality 1st Flooring Installation Specialist, brought the crew out to Staten Island and had Jason’s basement floor installed in record time. Jason loves the attractive finished look of his basement and loves to show off his Quality 1st Basement floor to everyone.

Wet Basement in Long Branch, NJ

Every new homeowners nightmare is to get water in their basement only a short time after purchasing their home. Tod and his wife had just recently purchased their second home in Long Branch, NJ when just one month after moving in, they discovered a puddle of water in their basement. Luckily Quality 1st Basements was able to send System Design Specialist, Kenny T out to inspect the basement and design a solution that best fit the water problems they were experiencing. Kenny T explained that the main reason a basement leaks is because of footing drain failure. This is when the soil around the outside of the foundation can't drain and becomes saturated. The weight of the water in the soil creates hydrostatic pressure and pushes the water into the basement through either the joint between the footing and the wall, cracks or under the footing. He recommended a waterproofing system consisting of WaterGuard drainage system, a SuperSump Pump with an Ultra Battery Backup System, and a SaniDry Dehumidifier be installed to prevent future water leaks and possible flooding.

Quality 1st Basements installed a WaterGuard drainage system above the footing, out of the "mud zone" so that the WaterGuard will never clog or get debris stuck inside. Our WaterGuard system creates a small wall gap to catch water seepage from the walls. WaterGuard collects the water and directs it to the SuperPump pump. The SumpPump is only part of the Sump Pump system. Our Super Sump pump has a sump liner, an airtight sump lid, a floor drain in the sump lid, a pump stand, and a pump alarm. Since many water issues are cause by severe weather storms that can cause power outages, it's always good to have a backup battery system which is exactly why Tod and his wife wanted the UltraSump Battery Backup System that would automatically kick in and begin removing water if the power were to knock out.

Quality 1st Basements was able to give Tod and his wife peace of mind now that their basement is protected.

5 Inch Tripping Hazard in Long Branch, NJ

Long Branch, NJ homeowner was experiencing sinking slabs in her backyard patio for years but ignored the problem since she didn't want to replace the entire patio area for it would no longer match the concrete around her pool. One day she received TheHomeMag magazine and flipping through noticed Quality 1st Basements' Sinking Concrete Ad. Immediately going to the website she was able to not only see before and afters of similar situations like hers, but also videos and reviews on the PolyLevel system used to raise the slabs. She called right away for a free estimate appointment.

Concrete Repair Specialist, Jeff Pitek, did a full inspection of the patio area and measured a few slabs sinking roughly an inch or two but one slab near the deck had almost 5 inches of settlement! Jeff explained that the tripping hazard could cause a serious injury if someone were to trip. He explained that over time, the soil underneath the patio area can no longer hold the weight of the concrete and begins to sink and settle causing the slabs to no longer be even. Removing and replacing the patio is an option but would cost a large amount and the concrete would no longer match. Using special equipment, PolyLevel foam is injected underneath each slab, filling that void. Once the void is completely filled the PolyLevel begins to raise each slab back to its desired level hardening for permanent stability. Within just 15 minutes of our PolyLevel team completing the installation, the Long Branch homeowner could finally put her patio furniture back outside and use her patio!

Settled Stoop in Closter, NJ Stabilized with Helical Piers

Quality 1st Basements was able to help a family in need of structural support when it came to their sinking front stoop. Over the years the stoop gradually began to settle and pull away from the foundation of the home. Quality 1st sent Senior Design Specialist, Ken Peare, out to do a full inspection and design a solution. He noticed serious settlement underneath the stoop. He explained that settlement is cause by usually one of  three things: the soil below the stoop was either poorly compacted, too wet or too dry. Over time the soil could no longer hold that much weight causing the stoop to sink.

Ken recommended Helical Piers be installed underneath the stoop to lift and stabilize. A Helical Pier is an ideal solution for permanently stabilizing regardless of the weight and structure. First, soil is removed from the area around the stoop where each Helical Pier will be installed. Using specialized hydraulic equipment, the first pier section is screwed into the ground. Additional steel sections are then added to extend the pier to the appropriate depths and capacities, and a steel foundation bracket is connected to the helical piers and attached to the foundation's footing. The weight of the home is then transferred through the Helical Piers onto the competent load-bearing soils deep below the surface. Once the stoop was lifted, the Piers are covered to be hidden from view.

The stoop was not only lifted but stabilized to prevent future movement. The family was given peace of mind that they no longer had to worry about their stoop, and that the value in the home didn't decrease due to this settlement.
