Historic buildings often come with unique challenges, especially below grade. In Chester, PA, the owner of a local barber shop was dealing with ongoing moisture problems in the building’s old stone basement. Damp walls and excess humidity were creating an unhealthy environment beneath the business and raising concerns about long-term damage.

After performing a full inspection, our team designed a complete waterproofing and moisture control solution specifically suited to the conditions of the historic basement. The first step in the project was installing the WaterGuard drainage system around the entire perimeter of the basement. WaterGuard is installed just beneath the basement floor and is designed to capture water entering through the wall-floor joint before it can spread across the surface. Once collected, the water is directed safely toward the sump pump system.

To handle water removal, we installed the TripleSafe sump pump system. This system provides multiple layers of protection by using three pumps within one system, including backup protection during power outages or heavy water conditions.

Because the basement featured old stone foundation walls, moisture and humidity were also major concerns. To help isolate the space from dampness, we lined the walls with CleanSpace vapor barrier material. This durable liner helps prevent moisture from entering through the walls while also creating a cleaner and brighter appearance throughout the basement.

Finally, a SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier was installed to help maintain healthy humidity levels and improve air quality. Controlling excess moisture in the air is an important part of preventing musty odors and creating a healthier basement environment overall. With the project complete, the barber shop now has a dry and protected basement space beneath the business. The full system works together to manage water, control humidity, and provide long-term protection for this historic property.

To fully address the moisture issues, our team designed and installed a complete waterproofing and humidity control system tailored to the historic basement. The project began with the installation of the WaterGuard interior drainage system around the entire perimeter of the basement. Installed just beneath the floor surface, WaterGuard captures incoming water at the wall-floor joint and channels it directly to the sump pump system before it can spread across the basement floor. To provide dependable water removal, we installed the TripleSafe sump pump system. With multiple layers of pumping protection, including backup capability, the system is designed to keep the basement protected even during periods of heavy water intrusion or power outages. Next, the stone walls were lined with CleanSpace vapor barrier. This durable liner helps isolate the basement from moisture entering through the walls while creating a cleaner and brighter appearance throughout the space. To complete the system, we installed a SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier to regulate humidity levels and improve overall air quality. By controlling excess moisture in the air, the SaniDry system helps reduce musty odors and creates a healthier environment beneath the barber shop. With all components working together, the historic basement was transformed into a cleaner, drier, and more controlled space that now has long-term protection against water and humidity issues.

In Chester, Pennsylvania, the owner of a local barber shop was experiencing ongoing moisture issues within the building’s historic basement. The space featured old stone foundation walls that had become increasingly damp over time, creating an uncomfortable and unhealthy environment beneath the business. The basement’s age and construction style made it especially vulnerable to water intrusion and excess humidity. Moisture buildup along the walls was contributing to damp conditions throughout the space, raising concerns about long-term damage, musty odors, and poor air quality. Because the basement sat directly beneath an active commercial space, the owner wanted a reliable waterproofing solution that would not only manage water intrusion but also improve the overall condition of the environment below the shop.

To improve water management around the home, our team installed the Gutter Shutter system. This high-performance gutter solution is specifically designed to efficiently collect and redirect rainwater away from the foundation while resisting clogs caused by leaves and debris. The old gutter system was removed and replaced with Gutter Shutter components engineered for durability and long-term performance. By improving the flow of roof runoff and reducing overflow near the home, the new system helps minimize moisture accumulation around the foundation.

In Somerville, New Jersey, a homeowner had started noticing dampness appearing along the basement walls of their home. While the issue seemed minor at first, it became more noticeable during periods of heavy rain, raising concerns about long-term moisture damage and foundation issues. After inspecting the property, our team identified the home’s aging gutter system as a contributing factor. The gutters were not effectively managing roof runoff, allowing water to collect near the foundation instead of being carried safely away from the home. Over time, this excess moisture around the foundation can lead to basement dampness, soil saturation, and increased pressure against foundation walls. The homeowner wanted a reliable, low-maintenance solution that would improve drainage and help protect the home from future water-related issues.

Crawl spaces can easily become problem areas when moisture is allowed to build up over time. In this Staten Island home, the crawl space had developed several issues, including damp conditions, mold growth on wooden supports, and weakened structural components beneath the floor system. The space also had a dirt floor, which allowed ground moisture to continuously enter the crawl space environment. These conditions created an unhealthy area beneath the home and contributed to the deterioration of the wooden framing. The homeowner had also recently addressed rodent activity in the crawl space and wanted to fully restore and protect the area moving forward.

The first step in the project was improving drainage within the crawl space. Our team installed StarPipe to help direct water away from the area and reduce moisture buildup beneath the home. Managing water intrusion is an important part of creating a healthier crawl space environment.

Once drainage improvements were in place, the crawl space was fully encapsulated using our CleanSpace vapor barrier system. This durable liner seals the crawl space from ground moisture and outside humidity, helping create a clean and controlled environment. To further improve insulation and energy efficiency, SilverGlo insulation panels were installed along the walls.

Because moisture had already impacted the structural supports beneath the home, SmartJacks were installed to reinforce and stabilize the floor system. These adjustable supports help correct sagging and provide long-term structural stability.

The crawl space featured a dirt floor and excessive moisture, which created ideal conditions for mold growth and wood deterioration. The damp environment had affected the wooden supports beneath the home, leaving sections weakened and visibly moldy. In addition to the moisture concerns, the homeowner had recently dealt with rodent activity within the crawl space and had already brought in an exterminator to address the infestation. While the pests had been treated, the homeowner understood that the crawl space itself still needed to be cleaned, sealed, and properly protected to prevent future issues. The combination of moisture, mold, structural weakness, and poor crawl space conditions required a complete and long-lasting solution.

Many of the systems that protect your home, like sump pumps, drainage systems, and crawl space solutions, are designed to work quietly in the background. Because of that, it is easy to assume everything is functioning properly. However, just because you do not see a problem does not mean one is not developing. Over time, even the most reliable systems can collect dirt, debris, and buildup that affect performance. Components can wear down, connections can loosen, and small issues can go unnoticed until they turn into larger, more expensive problems. This is especially true for systems that are only truly tested during heavy rain or extreme conditions.

Annual service is designed to catch these issues early. During a maintenance appointment, key components are inspected, cleaned, and tested to ensure everything is operating as intended. Removing buildup, checking pump performance, and confirming proper drainage flow all help extend the life of the system and improve its reliability.

A helpful way to think about it is like an oil change for your car. You would not wait for your engine to fail before taking action, and the same mindset applies to your home. Regular maintenance keeps everything running smoothly and helps prevent unexpected breakdowns at the worst possible time.

Another important benefit of annual service is peace of mind. Knowing your system has been recently checked and maintained allows you to feel confident that your home is protected, especially during seasons when water intrusion and humidity are more likely. In the end, annual service is about prevention, instead of just about maintenance. A small investment of time today can help avoid major repairs tomorrow, keeping your home dry, safe, and protected year-round!

When mold develops in a crawl space, it is a sign of excess moisture and an environment that can impact both the structure of the home and the air quality inside. One of the most effective ways to safely remove mold from wooden surfaces in a crawl space is through a process known as soda blasting.

Soda blasting is a specialized cleaning method that uses sodium bicarbonate, a non-toxic, food-grade material, to remove mold from wood and other surfaces. The material is applied using high-pressure air, allowing it to break apart and remove mold growth without damaging the underlying structure. This makes it an ideal solution for crawl spaces, where preserving the integrity of wooden support beams is essential.

Unlike more aggressive cleaning methods, soda blasting is gentle on materials while still being highly effective. As the sodium bicarbonate makes contact with the mold, it not only removes it from the surface but also neutralizes it. The blasting process changes the pH level, which helps eliminate the mold’s ability to remain active. What is left behind is no longer living mold, but an inert residue that can be safely removed. Another important benefit of soda blasting is that it does not introduce harmful chemicals into the home. Because the material is non-toxic and does not produce dangerous fumes or off-gassing, it is a safe option for both homeowners and technicians during the remediation process.

However, removing mold is only one part of the solution. Mold develops when moisture levels remain high over time, so it is critical to address the underlying conditions that allowed it to grow. After soda blasting is completed, crawl spaces are sealed and protected using encapsulation systems. These systems help control humidity, prevent outside moisture from entering, and create an environment where mold is far less likely to return. In many cases, insulation that was previously installed beneath the floor is removed during the process. When a crawl space is properly encapsulated, insulation is more effective when installed along the walls rather than under the floor, further improving energy efficiency and moisture control.

Crawl spaces often go unnoticed, but when moisture builds up over time, they can become the source of serious issues within a home. In this Deepwater, New Jersey home, a damp crawl space led to mold growth on wooden beams and eventually caused the floors above to sag.

The process began with a full inspection of the crawl space to understand the extent of the moisture and structural damage. It was clear that high humidity levels had allowed mold to grow on the wood, and that the prolonged exposure to moisture had weakened the support system beneath the home.

The first step in the solution was removing the mold safely and effectively. Soda blasting was used to clean the wooden beams. This process uses a non-toxic material applied at high pressure to remove mold without damaging the wood. In addition to removing the visible mold, the process neutralizes it, preventing it from continuing to spread.

Once the crawl space was cleaned, the focus shifted to preventing the problem from returning. The space was sealed using a CleanSpace encapsulation system, which acts as a barrier against moisture and outside air. By controlling the environment within the crawl space, the conditions that allow mold to grow are eliminated. To further improve the space, SilverGlo insulation was installed along the walls. This helps regulate temperature and adds an additional layer of protection against moisture and humidity.

Finally, to address the sagging floors above, SmartJacks were installed beneath the home. These supports help stabilize the structure and can be adjusted to lift the floors back toward their original position, restoring strength and reliability. With the crawl space fully cleaned, sealed, and supported, the transformation was complete! The home is now protected from moisture, mold, and structural movement, creating a healthier and more stable living environment.

To restore the crawl space, our team implemented a multi-step solution focused on cleaning, sealing, and stabilizing the space. The process began with soda blasting, a safe and effective method used to remove mold from wooden surfaces. Using high-pressure air, a non-toxic sodium bicarbonate material was applied to the affected wood. This process removed mold without damaging the lumber while also neutralizing it, leaving behind an inert, non-active residue. Once the crawl space structure was properly cleaned, the next step was to address the moisture conditions that caused the problem in the first place. The space was encapsulated using our CleanSpace vapor barrier system, which seals off the crawl space from ground moisture and outside air. To further improve insulation and energy efficiency, SilverGlo insulation panels were installed along the walls. To resolve the structural concerns, SmartJacks were installed beneath the home to provide additional support and help lift and stabilize the sagging floors above. These adjustable steel supports are designed to restore stability and prevent further movement over time. With all systems working together, the crawl space was transformed into a clean, dry, and controlled environment. Mold was eliminated, moisture was managed, and the structure was reinforced, providing the homeowner with a healthier home and lasting peace of mind.

In Deepwater, a homeowner was facing multiple issues stemming from a damp crawl space environment. Elevated humidity levels had allowed moisture to accumulate within the space, creating the perfect conditions for mold to grow on the wooden support beams. Over time, this mold not only affected the condition of the crawl space, but also began impacting the air quality within the home. As the moisture problem persisted, it began to compromise the structural integrity of the floor system above. The homeowner noticed sagging in the kitchen and mudroom floors, a clear sign that the support system below was weakening. This combination of mold growth, excess humidity, and structural concerns required a comprehensive solution that would address both the immediate issues and prevent future problems.

Historic homes offer timeless charm, but they can also present unique challenges when it comes to moisture and waterproofing. In this Collegeville, PA farmhouse built in 1890, the homeowner was dealing with water intrusion in their finished basement, putting both the space and their belongings at risk. The process began with a detailed inspection of the basement to determine how and where water was entering. In many older homes, water seeps in through the foundation walls or along the floor joint, especially during periods of heavy rain. Identifying these entry points is critical to developing an effective solution.

Once the problem areas were confirmed, the first step in the installation process was implementing the WaterGuard drainage system. This system is installed just below the basement floor along the perimeter, allowing it to capture water before it becomes visible. By intercepting water at the source, WaterGuard prevents it from spreading across the basement floor.

After the drainage system was in place, attention turned to removing the collected water from the home. A SuperSump pump system was installed to handle this task. Designed for reliability and efficiency, the sump pump works continuously to discharge water safely away from the foundation, helping to keep the basement dry even during heavy storms.

The final step focused on controlling moisture at the wall level. The CleanSpace liner was installed along the basement walls, creating a protective barrier that prevents moisture from entering the space. In addition to its functional benefits, CleanSpace also improves the overall appearance of the basement, giving it a cleaner, brighter look.

With all systems working together, the transformation was complete. The basement is now protected from water intrusion, moisture is controlled, and the space is once again usable and reliable. For homeowners with older properties, this project highlights the importance of addressing water issues proactively and investing in solutions designed for long-term performance.

After a thorough inspection, a waterproofing system was designed to manage water at its source and protect the basement moving forward. The installation began with the placement of the WaterGuard drainage system along the perimeter of the basement. Installed just below the floor surface, WaterGuard is designed to capture water entering through the walls and floor joint before it can spread across the basement. Once collected, the water is directed efficiently to the sump pump system. To handle water removal, the SuperSump pump system was installed. This high-performance system is designed to quickly and effectively pump water out of the basement, ensuring the space remains dry even during heavy rainfall. Working in tandem with the drainage system, it provides reliable protection against future water intrusion. To complete the system, the CleanSpace liner was installed along the basement walls. This durable vapor barrier helps prevent moisture from entering the space, while also improving the overall appearance of the basement. By sealing the walls, CleanSpace adds an additional layer of defense against dampness and humidity. With all components working together, the basement was transformed from a vulnerable space into a dry, protected environment.

Older homes often come with unique challenges, and in this case, the finished basement was experiencing ongoing water intrusion. Water was accumulating in the space, putting stored belongings at risk and making the basement unreliable for everyday use. For a finished area meant to add comfort and functionality to the home, this created both inconvenience and concern. The homeowner needed a solution that would not only address the visible water issues, but also protect the space long-term without compromising the integrity of the historic property.
Gutters play a critical role in protecting your home, yet they are often one of the most overlooked systems until a problem arises. When functioning properly, gutters direct rainwater away from your roof, foundation, and landscaping. However, when they become clogged, they can quickly lead to water overflow, foundation issues, and costly damage. Traditional gutter systems are especially prone to clogging because they are open and exposed. Leaves, twigs, dirt, and debris easily collect inside, creating blockages that prevent water from flowing freely. Over time, this buildup can cause water to spill over the sides, pool around your foundation, and even seep into your basement or crawl space. In colder months, clogged gutters can also contribute to ice dams, which can damage both your roof and interior ceilings.

This is where the RainDrop gutter guard system offers a smarter, more effective solution. Designed to prevent debris from entering the gutter while still allowing water to pass through, RainDrop addresses the root cause of clogged gutters rather than just managing the symptoms. RainDrop features a unique all-in-one design that covers the entire gutter system. Its advanced structure allows rainwater to flow smoothly into the gutter while blocking leaves, pine needles, and other debris from entering. Unlike traditional screens or covers that can shift, clog, or allow smaller debris through, RainDrop is engineered to provide consistent performance across all seasons.

One of the key advantages of the RainDrop system is its ability to handle heavy rainfall without becoming overwhelmed. Its design allows water to cling to the surface and flow into the gutter, even during downpours, while debris is naturally directed away. This ensures that your gutter system continues to function efficiently when you need it most. Another important benefit is the reduction in maintenance. With traditional gutters, homeowners often find themselves climbing ladders multiple times a year to remove debris and restore proper flow. RainDrop significantly reduces the need for routine cleaning by keeping debris out in the first place, saving time and lowering the risk associated with frequent gutter maintenance.

Beyond convenience, a properly functioning gutter system has a direct impact on the health of your home. By preventing water from overflowing and pooling around the foundation, RainDrop helps protect against soil erosion, basement leaks, and structural damage. It also preserves the appearance of your home by preventing unsightly streaking and water damage along siding and exterior walls. In the end, the difference between traditional gutters and a protected system like RainDrop comes down to reliability. Instead of reacting to clogs after they happen, RainDrop works proactively to keep water flowing and your home protected.

Our team implemented a full Total Basement Finishing system to completely transform the space. We installed EverLast wall panels, designed to resist moisture and prevent mold growth, making them perfect for below-grade environments. ThermalDry ElitePlank flooring was added to provide a warm, attractive, and water-resistant surface suitable for high-traffic family use. To enhance the overall atmosphere, we upgraded the lighting and painted the ceiling, significantly improving brightness and creating a more open feel. The result is a completely transformed basement that is now bright, clean, and fully functional. The space has been converted into a comfortable play area for the homeowner’s children, offering both safety and durability. This project not only improved daily living but also added valuable, usable square footage to the home.

As the weather warms up, many homeowners notice something frustrating: their home starts to feel damp, musty, or harder to keep comfortable, even if it’s not raining.

While it’s easy to blame the outdoor air, the real source of spring humidity often begins somewhere unexpected: beneath your home.

Why Humidity Builds Up in Spring

Spring brings a mix of rising temperatures, increased rainfall, and saturated soil. As the ground around your home holds more moisture, that moisture naturally finds its way toward your foundation. Basements and crawl spaces are especially vulnerable because they are surrounded by soil and often have cooler surfaces. When warm, humid air meets these cooler areas, condensation forms. Over time, this creates a damp environment that allows humidity levels to rise quickly.

How Moisture Travels Up Into Your Home

Humidity doesn’t stay contained in your basement or crawl space. Due to a natural airflow effect, often referred to as the “stack effect,” air from lower levels of your home rises upward. This means that moisture-laden air from below can move into your main living areas, affecting the entire home. What starts as dampness under your home can lead to:

Musty odors throughout the house

Increased indoor humidity levels

Strain on your HVAC system

A less comfortable living environment

Stopping Humidity at the Source

Excess humidity can lead to long-term issues if left unaddressed. Over time, elevated moisture levels can contribute to mold growth, wood rot, and poor indoor air quality. Even in homes without visible water intrusion, humidity alone can slowly impact both the structure and the health of the living space.

The most effective way to control spring humidity is not just treating the symptoms upstairs, but addressing the source below. Sealing and protecting your basement or crawl space helps prevent outside moisture from entering in the first place. Systems like vapor barriers, drainage systems, and proper insulation all work together to create a controlled environment. From there, a high-performance dehumidifier helps regulate humidity levels and maintain a dry, healthy space year-round.

If your home feels damp every spring, the issue may not be your living space! It may be what’s happening underneath it. By controlling moisture at the source, you can improve comfort, protect your home, and prevent bigger issues down the line.

Not every waterproofing project starts with active water intrusion. In many cases, the smartest approach is prevention, especially after a homeowner has already experienced a plumbing-related issue. In this West Chester, PA home, the basement had recently undergone remediation following a pipe leak, but the homeowner wanted to ensure the space would remain protected moving forward.

The process began with a full inspection of the basement to evaluate potential risks. Even though the space was dry at the time, the previous leak highlighted the importance of having a system in place to manage any future water intrusion. Rather than relying on a traditional exterior solution like a French drain, a more efficient interior system was recommended.

The first step in the installation process was implementing the DryTrak drainage system along the perimeter of the basement. This system is designed to capture any water that may enter along the edges of the foundation and direct it safely away before it can reach the floor. Because it installs with minimal disruption, it was an ideal solution for this already-finished space.

Once water management was addressed, the next step was installing a reliable sump pump system. The TripleSafe sump pump was chosen for its ability to provide continuous protection through multiple layers of defense. It handles everyday water levels, increased flow during heavy storms, and continues to operate even during power outages thanks to its battery backup.

To further strengthen the system, a SuperSump was added to increase pumping capacity. This ensures that even in higher-demand situations, the system can keep up with incoming water and maintain a dry basement.

The final step focused on air quality and moisture control. The SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier was installed to regulate humidity levels and maintain a healthy environment. By reducing excess moisture in the air, it helps prevent mold growth and eliminates musty odors, making the space more comfortable overall.

With all components working together, the basement is now protected on multiple levels. Water is captured before it can spread, efficiently removed from the home, and humidity is kept under control. This project highlights the value of taking preventative action, ensuring long-term protection and peace of mind for the homeowner.

To provide long-term protection and peace of mind, a comprehensive waterproofing and moisture control system was designed and installed. The project began with the installation of the DryTrak interior drainage system along the basement perimeter. This system is specifically designed for situations where minimal disruption is preferred, allowing water to be captured and directed without the need for extensive excavation. By collecting any potential seepage before it reaches the basement floor, DryTrak serves as the first line of defense. To ensure reliable water removal, the basement was equipped with the TripleSafe sump pump system. This system provides three levels of protection, including a primary pump for everyday conditions, a secondary pump for higher water volumes, and a battery backup pump to maintain operation during power outages. This ensures the home remains protected under all circumstances. To further enhance the system’s capacity, a SuperSump was added as a secondary pump. This addition increases the system’s ability to handle higher volumes of water, reinforcing overall performance and reliability. Finally, to address humidity and air quality, the SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier was installed. This high-performance system maintains humidity levels below 55%, helping to prevent mold growth, eliminate musty odors, and create a healthier basement environment.

In West Chester, a homeowner reached out after completing a basement remediation caused by a pipe leak. While the issue had already been addressed, it raised an important concern: how to prevent future water problems before they could occur again. The basement itself was dry and unfinished at the time of inspection, but the homeowner wanted to take a proactive approach rather than wait for another issue to arise. They had been advised to consider installing a French drain system, but were looking for a professional evaluation to determine the most effective long-term solution. Understanding that even a currently dry basement can be vulnerable to future water intrusion, the team at Quality 1st Basement Systems conducted a full assessment. The goal was not just to fix a problem, but to build a system that would prevent one from ever happening again.

To resolve this, a customized waterproofing plan was developed to address the problem at its source and provide long-term protection. The installation began with the placement of our WaterGuard drainage system along the basement perimeter. Installed just below the floor surface and above the footing, WaterGuard is designed to capture water seepage from both the walls and floor joint before it becomes visible. The system then channels the collected water directly to the sump pump for removal. To enhance the home’s protection, the existing sump pump was upgraded to the TripleSafe system. This advanced system features three pumps within one liner, including a primary pump for everyday use, a secondary pump for higher water volumes, and a battery backup pump to ensure operation even during power outages. This upgrade transformed the basement from vulnerable to reliably protected under all conditions. To complete the system, CleanSpace was installed along the basement walls. This durable vapor barrier helps prevent moisture from entering the space, reduces the risk of mold growth, and creates a cleaner, brighter environment. By sealing the walls and controlling humidity, CleanSpace adds an additional layer of protection and improves the overall condition of the basement.

In South Plainfield, a homeowner was dealing with an ongoing and frustrating problem: water intrusion in their basement during heavy rains. Despite already having a sump pump in place, water continued to seep through the foundation walls in multiple areas, leaving behind visible wet marks and raising concerns about potential damage and long-term reliability. Recognizing that the existing system was not fully addressing the issue, the homeowner contacted us at Quality 1st Basement Systems for a professional evaluation. A Customer Care Specialist promptly scheduled an inspection, and a System Design Specialist soon arrived to conduct a thorough assessment of the basement.

During the inspection, it became clear that while the sump pump was functioning, the basement lacked an effective system to capture and manage water before it entered the space. Without proper perimeter drainage, water was able to seep through the walls and spread across the basement, leading to recurring issues.

Based on the inspection, our team designed a complete interior waterproofing system tailored to the home’s specific needs. The solution focused on managing water at the point of entry, directing it safely away, and protecting the basement environment from future moisture issues. The installation began with the WaterGuard drainage system, placed along the perimeter of the basement floor. Installed just above the foundation footing and beneath the surface of the floor, WaterGuard is designed to capture water seepage from both the walls and floor joint before it can enter the living space. Unlike traditional systems, it is engineered to resist clogging, ensuring consistent, long-term performance. Captured water is then directed into the TripleSafe sump pump system, which was installed to provide reliable and continuous protection. This system features three levels of defense, including a primary pump for everyday conditions, a secondary pump for increased water volume, and a battery backup pump that continues to operate during power outages. This layered approach ensures the basement remains protected even during heavy storms or unexpected failures.

To further enhance the space, CleanSpace was installed along the basement walls. This durable vapor barrier system helps seal out moisture, brightens the appearance of the basement, and creates a cleaner, more controlled environment. By reducing humidity and preventing moisture from entering through the walls, CleanSpace plays a key role in protecting against mold and mildew. With all components working together, the basement was transformed into a dry, protected, and usable space.

In Belford, a homeowner was dealing with an ongoing and frustrating issue: water infiltrating their partially finished basement. The space, which was intended to be used for everyday living and activities, was at risk of damage due to repeated moisture intrusion. Water entering a finished or semi-finished basement is especially concerning, as it can lead to damage of flooring, walls, and personal belongings, while also creating an environment conducive to mold and mildew growth. The homeowner initially believed a traditional French drain might be the best solution, but wanted a professional assessment before moving forward. They reached out to our team at Quality 1st Basement Systems, where our System Design Specialist, Andrew was sent to evaluate the situation. After a thorough inspection, it became clear that the issue required a more comprehensive and reliable waterproofing approach than a standard exterior drain system could provide.

After a thorough evaluation, a comprehensive plan was developed to address both the moisture intrusion and the structural concerns, ensuring the basement would be dry, stable, and ready for inspection by prospective buyers. To begin, our team installed the CleanSpace system along the basement walls. This durable vapor barrier immediately transformed the space by sealing out moisture, improving the overall appearance, and creating a cleaner, brighter environment. By controlling humidity and preventing further dampness, CleanSpace helped eliminate one of the most noticeable issues in the basement. To manage water intrusion at its source, the WaterGuard drainage system was installed along the perimeter of the basement. Positioned just above the footing and beneath the floor surface, this system is designed to capture water entering through the walls and floor joint, directing it safely away before it can reach the basement floor. Unlike traditional drainage methods, WaterGuard is built to resist clogging and provide reliable, long-term performance. The collected water is then routed into our TripleSafe sump pump system, which was installed to provide maximum protection. This system features three levels of defense, including a primary pump for everyday use, a secondary pump for handling higher volumes of water, and a battery backup pump to ensure continued operation even during power outages. Together, these components create a dependable system that protects the basement under all conditions.

Addressing the structural concerns, our team applied the CarbonArmor system to the cracked block walls. These carbon fiber-reinforced straps are bonded directly to the wall using a high-strength epoxy, stabilizing the structure and preventing further movement. This solution provides significant reinforcement without the need for invasive construction, preserving the integrity of the space while restoring confidence in the foundation.

In Old Bridge, a homeowner preparing to sell their property was met with a critical obstacle that could impact the entire transaction. During the buyer’s evaluation, significant concerns were raised about the condition of the basement. The space showed clear signs of moisture intrusion, with damp walls creating an uninviting environment, while large cracks in the block foundation walls pointed to deeper structural issues. These problems not only affected the appearance of the basement but also raised red flags about the home’s overall stability and long-term durability. For any potential buyer, visible foundation cracks and moisture issues can quickly become deal-breakers, leading to hesitation, renegotiation, or even a failed sale. Understanding the urgency of the situation, the homeowner needed a solution that would both resolve the underlying issues and restore confidence in the property. They reached out to our team at Quality 1st Basement Systems, where one of our Customer Care Specialists promptly scheduled a detailed inspection. Shortly after, a System Design Specialist from our Sales Team arrived on-site to fully assess the condition of the basement, identify the root causes, and determine the most effective path forward.

Water intrusion in a basement is often a sign of a larger underlying issue, and without the right system in place, it can continue to worsen over time. In this New Castle, DE home, the homeowner experienced persistent dampness that eventually led to visible water pooling on the basement floor. Despite having a sump pump in place, the system was no longer capable of keeping up with the water entering the space. The process began with a full inspection of the basement to determine the exact source of the problem. During this evaluation, it became clear that the issue extended beyond a failing sump pump. The basement lacked a proper drainage system to manage groundwater entering through the foundation walls and floor joint, allowing water to accumulate on the surface.

To solve this, the first step was installing our WaterGuard interior drainage system along the perimeter of the basement. This system is specifically designed to intercept water at its entry point before it can spread across the floor. By placing it just above the footing and beneath the concrete, it is able to capture water efficiently while remaining hidden from view.

Once the drainage system was in place, the next step was upgrading the sump pump to the TripleSafe system. This advanced system ensures that water collected by the drainage system is quickly and effectively removed from the home. Its three-pump design allows it to handle normal conditions, increased water volume during storms, and even continue operating during power outages.

After addressing the water itself, the final step focused on controlling moisture in the air. The SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier was installed to maintain proper humidity levels throughout the basement. By removing excess moisture from the air, it helps prevent mold growth, eliminates musty odors, and creates a more comfortable environment.

With all components working together, the basement is now fully protected. Water is captured before it reaches the floor, efficiently removed from the home, and humidity is kept under control. This comprehensive approach ensures long-term results and transforms the basement into a dry, healthy, and usable space. Taking a complete system approach rather than addressing individual symptoms is what makes the difference in lasting basement protection. For homeowners experiencing similar issues, acting early can prevent further damage and restore confidence in the space below their home.

To address these issues, a complete waterproofing and moisture control system was recommended. The solution centered around the installation of our WaterGuard interior drainage system, a TripleSafe sump pump, and a SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier. Each component was designed to work together, ensuring water would be captured, removed, and that humidity levels would be properly controlled moving forward. The installation process began with the placement of the WaterGuard system along the perimeter of the basement. Installed just above the foundation footing and beneath a fresh layer of concrete, this system captures water entering through the walls and floor joint before it can reach the surface. From there, the collected water is directed to the newly installed TripleSafe sump pump system. This advanced system provides three levels of protection, including a primary pump for everyday use, a secondary pump for higher volumes of water, and a battery backup pump to ensure operation during power outages.

To further improve the environment, the SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier was installed to regulate humidity levels and eliminate excess moisture in the air. This addition not only helps prevent mold growth but also removes musty odors, creating a healthier and more comfortable space. With the full system in place, the transformation was immediate. The standing water was eliminated, the air quality improved, and the basement was restored to a clean, dry, and usable condition!

In New Castle, Delaware, a homeowner began experiencing a growing concern as water started accumulating across their unfinished basement floor. What began as general dampness quickly escalated into puddling, making the space unusable and raising concerns about long-term damage. Compounding the issue, the existing sump pump was no longer performing effectively, leaving the basement vulnerable during heavy rainfall. Seeking a reliable and lasting solution, the homeowner contactedour team at Quality 1st Basement Systems. Our System Design Specialist, John Z. conducted a comprehensive inspection of the basement and identified the root causes of the problem. The space lacked an effective drainage system to manage incoming groundwater, and the outdated sump pump was unable to keep up with the volume of water entering the basement.

The Hidden Danger in Your Basement: How a Water Heater Can Cause Serious Flood Damage

When most homeowners think basement flooding, they picture heavy rainstorms or burst pipes. But one of the most overlooked risks is sitting quietly in many basements: the water heater. While it’s easy to take this appliance for granted, a failing or damaged water heater can release dozens of gallons of water all over your basement floor—leading to costly and potentially dangerous consequences.

How a Water Heater Can Flood Your Basement

Water heaters store and heat a large volume of water—typically between 30 to 80 gallons. If the tank corrodes, a valve fails, or a connection breaks, that water has to go somewhere. Unlike a slow leak, a full tank failure can release water rapidly, overwhelming drains and soaking everything in its path. Finished basements are especially vulnerable, as water can quickly damage flooring, drywall, furniture, and personal belongings.

The Real Risks Beyond Water

A flooded basement isn’t just an inconvenience—it can create serious hazards:

- Structural Damage: Water can weaken wood framing, warp floors, and damage your foundation over time.

- Mold Growth: Moisture trapped in walls and flooring creates the perfect environment for mold, which can begin developing within 24–48 hours.

- Electrical Hazards: Water and electricity are a dangerous combination. Flooding can expose wiring or appliances, increasing the risk of shock or fire.

- Loss of Valuable Items: From family keepsakes to expensive renovations, floodwater can destroy items that are difficult—or impossible—to replace.

Warning Signs to Watch For

Catching issues early can make all the difference. Look for:

- Small puddles or moisture around the base of the unit

- Rusty or discolored water

- Unusual noises like popping or rumbling

- A drop in water temperature or inconsistent performance

Protecting Your Home

This homeowner had a full perimeter waterproofing system protecting their finished basement. Take a look at how the TrenchDrain Perimeter Drain accepted the water from the floor and directed right into the sump pump system preventing flooding. One of our favorite parts about this product is the removeable lid that allows the homeowner to clear any debris that maybe enter through and potentially clog the system.

Your water heater may not be something you think about often, but it has the potential to cause significant damage if it fails. Taking proactive steps today can save you thousands of dollars—and a lot of stress—down the road. A little prevention goes a long way when it comes to protecting your basement, your home, and everything in it.

Water intrusion can be frustrating, especially when previous repairs don’t fully solve the problem. In this Drexel Hill, PA home, our team implemented a complete waterproofing system to stop water at the source. Here’s how the process works step by step:

Step 1: Identifying the Real Problem

The homeowners initially believed the issue was related to plumbing, but continued water intrusion made it clear that something else was happening. This is common! Many basement water issues actually come from groundwater pressure around the foundation, not just interior sources.

Step 2: Full Basement Inspection

Our System Design Specialist, Ryan conducted a comprehensive inspection to identify all entry points and contributing factors. By looking at the full picture, we were able to determine that water was entering through the foundation walls and floor joint.

Step 3: Installing the WaterGuard Drainage System

To control the water, we installed our WaterGuard system along the basement perimeter. This system is placed just above the footing and is designed to capture water entering through walls, prevent clogging from soil and debris, and direct water efficiently to a sump pump.

Step 4: Installing the TripleSafe Sump Pump

Next, we installed the TripleSafe sump pump system to remove collected water from the home.

This system provides a primary pump for everyday use, a secondary pump for heavy water flow, and a battery backup for protection during outages.

Step 5: Restoring the Basement Floor

After installation, the trench was sealed with fresh concrete, restoring the basement floor and leaving a clean, finished appearance.

Step 6: Long-Term Protection

With both systems working together, the basement is now protected from future water intrusion! Water is intercepted, redirected, and removed before it can cause damage, providing a reliable, long-term solution.

Interior drainage systems like WaterGuard combined with a reliable sump pump offer consistent protection because they manage water after it reaches the foundation, ensuring it never enters the living space. If your basement has experienced water issues, even after previous repairs, it may be time for a more comprehensive solution. A professionally designed waterproofing system can provide lasting protection and peace of mind, no matter the weather!

To fully resolve the issue, a comprehensive waterproofing system was recommended, centered around two proven solutions: our WaterGuard Interior Drainage System, and the TripleSafe Sump Pump System. Together, these systems create a complete solution that captures, redirects, and removes water before it can reach the basement floor.

Our production team began by carefully preparing the basement perimeter for the installation of the WaterGuard system. A trench was created along the foundation walls, allowing the system to be placed just above the footing, where it can effectively capture incoming water. The WaterGuard system was then installed to intercept water entering through the walls and floor joint, channeling it directly to the sump pump system. Next, the TripleSafe Sump Pump was installed. This advanced system features three levels of protection:

A primary pump for everyday water removal

A secondary pump for high-volume situations

A battery backup pump for protection during power outages

Once installation was complete, the trench was restored with fresh concrete, leaving the system hidden while fully operational.

In Drexel Hill, homeowners were facing an ongoing and frustrating issue: continuous water intrusion in their basement, even after attempting previous pipe repairs. While those repairs addressed part of the problem, water was still finding its way inside, leaving the space damp and unreliable. Looking for a permanent solution, they contacted our team at Quality 1st Basement Systems for a professional evaluation.

One of our System Design Specialists, Ryan visited the home and conducted a thorough inspection of the basement. Rather than focusing only on the previous repair area, Ryan evaluated the entire foundation to identify all potential entry points. His assessment revealed that water intrusion was not solely related to plumbing, but also due to groundwater seepage entering through the foundation walls and floor joint, a common issue in basements without a proper drainage system.

Basement water problems can quickly turn a usable space into a damp, unhealthy environment. In a recent project in Pennsauken, NJ, our team helped a homeowner eliminate ongoing water intrusion by installing a proven interior waterproofing system. Here’s a step-by-step look at how the process works:

Step 1: Identifying the Problem

The homeowner noticed that their basement would become damp after heavy rain. Signs like peeling paint and deteriorating materials indicated that water was consistently entering the space. This is often caused by water pressure building up around the foundation, forcing moisture through small openings in the walls and floor.

Step 2: Professional Inspection

Our System Design Specialist, John, conducted a detailed inspection to determine exactly where the water was entering and how it was affecting the structure. This step is critical, as every home has unique conditions that require a tailored solution.

Step 3: Installing the WaterGuard Drainage System

To control the water, our team installed our WaterGuard system along the basement perimeter. This system sits just above the footing and collects water before it reaches the floor. Once collected, the water is directed toward a sump pump system.

Step 4: Installing the SuperSump Pump System

Next, our SuperSump pump was installed to handle the removal of collected water. This system is designed to pump water efficiently out of the basement and away from the home.

Step 5: Restoring the Basement Floor

After the systems were installed, the trench was sealed with fresh concrete, leaving the basement with a clean and finished appearance.

Step 6: A Dry, Protected Basement

With both systems working together, the basement is now protected from future water intrusion. Water is intercepted, redirected, and removed before it can cause damage!

Why Interior Waterproofing Works

Interior systems like WaterGuard and SuperSump are highly effective because they manage water after it reaches the foundation, rather than trying to block it entirely from the outside. This ensures consistent, long-term protection even during heavy rain.

Once the homeowner approved the plan, our production team, led by our Foreman, Doug, began the installation process. The first step involved installing the WaterGuard interior drainage system along the perimeter of the basement. This required carefully creating a trench along the foundation walls, allowing the system to be placed just above the footing. WaterGuard is specifically designed to collect water entering through the walls or floor joint and direct it efficiently to a sump pump system. Next, the team installed the SuperSump sump pump system, which serves as the central point for removing collected water. The SuperSump is engineered for reliability and performance, capable of handling high volumes of water and ensuring the basement remains dry even during heavy storms. Once installation was complete, the trench was restored with fresh concrete, leaving the system discreetly hidden while fully functional.

With the WaterGuard and SuperSump systems working together, the basement is now protected from future water intrusion. Water is captured before it can spread across the floor and is safely pumped away from the home.

In Pennsauken, New Jersey, a homeowner began noticing ongoing moisture issues in their basement, particularly after periods of heavy rainfall. The unfinished portion of the space had become increasingly damp and uninviting, with visible signs of deterioration. Understanding that these conditions could worsen over time and lead to more serious structural and air quality concerns, the homeowner reached out to Quality 1st Basement Systems for a professional evaluation and long-term solution.

After contacting our Customer Care team, an inspection was promptly scheduled with System Design Specialist, John. During the visit, John conducted a thorough assessment of the basement, carefully identifying the sources and patterns of water intrusion. The evaluation confirmed that water was entering the basement through the foundation walls and floor joint, a common issue in homes where hydrostatic pressure builds up around the foundation during heavy rain. To address the problem effectively, a comprehensive waterproofing solution was recommended to capture and redirect water before it could reach the basement floor.

To fully address the moisture concerns, our production team installed our CleanSpace Crawl Space vapor barrier. This 20-mil vapor barrier is engineered for superior durability and features an antimicrobial treatment to prevent mold and mildew growth. By sealing the dirt floor and walls, CleanSpace effectively isolates the crawl space from external moisture, ensuring a dry environment. To further enhance insulation and energy efficiency, SilverGlo Crawl Space wall insulation was installed. SilverGlo features graphite-enhanced insulation with a radiant heat barrier, delivering an R-11 rating while directing any residual moisture toward the drainage system. Together, these products created a sealed, energy-efficient crawl space with reduced humidity and minimized risk of mold and wood damage.

As winter fades and temperatures begin to rise, many homeowners start to notice a familiar issue returning to their homes: increased humidity. Spring may bring warmer weather, but it also introduces higher moisture levels both outside and inside your home. Basements and crawl spaces are especially vulnerable during this time of year, making moisture control an important part of seasonal home maintenance. One of the most effective ways to combat excess moisture is with a high-performance dehumidifier like the SaniDry Sedona, a powerful system designed specifically for basements and below-grade spaces.

Why Humidity Increases in Spring

During the spring months, several environmental factors contribute to rising humidity levels inside the home. Melting snow, seasonal rainstorms, and saturated soil all add moisture to the ground surrounding your foundation. As this moisture builds up, it can begin to seep into your basement through tiny cracks in the walls or floor, or it can enter as water vapor. Even if water isn't visibly entering the basement, the air itself can carry high levels of humidity. When that moisture lingers in a closed, cool space like a basement, it can lead to a variety of problems for homeowners.

Signs Your Basement May Have High Humidity

Excess humidity often appears gradually, and many homeowners may not notice it right away. Some common warning signs include:

Musty or damp odors

Condensation on pipes, windows, or walls

Damp or humid-feeling air

Mold or mildew growth

Warped or damaged stored belongings

If left untreated, high humidity can also contribute to wood rot, poor indoor air quality, and an uncomfortable living environment.

How the SaniDry Sedona Helps Control Moisture

The SaniDry Sedona is a high-performance basement dehumidifier designed to remove large amounts of moisture from the air efficiently and consistently. Unlike standard portable dehumidifiers, the SaniDry Sedona is engineered specifically for below-grade spaces where humidity levels tend to be higher and more persistent. This system works by continuously pulling moisture from the air and directing it safely to a drainage system, eliminating the need for homeowners to constantly empty a collection bucket. The result is a basement that stays consistently drier and more comfortable. Because it is designed for larger spaces, the SaniDry Sedona can effectively manage humidity levels throughout an entire basement, helping to prevent conditions that allow mold and musty odors to develop.

Benefits of Installing a Basement Dehumidifier

Controlling basement humidity with a professional-grade system like the SaniDry Sedona offers several advantages, including:

Improved indoor air quality throughout the home

Reduced risk of mold and mildew growth

Protection for stored belongings and building materials

A fresher, cleaner-smelling basement

Greater overall comfort inside the home

Since air from the basement naturally circulates upward into the rest of the house, managing humidity at the source can improve air quality on every floor.

Spring is one of the most common times for homeowners to notice moisture issues, making it the perfect time to address humidity concerns before they worsen. A properly controlled basement environment helps protect your home’s structure, your belongings, and the air your family breathes every day. If you’ve noticed damp air, musty odors, or signs of excess humidity in your basement, installing a SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier can provide a long-term solution for maintaining a dry and healthy space.

To resolve the structural issues, our team recommended installing our SmartJack Crawl Space support jacks. SmartJacks are high-strength, adjustable steel support posts engineered specifically to stabilize and lift sagging floor joists. During installation, our crew carefully positioned the SmartJacks beneath the compromised joists and adjusted them to restore proper support and alignment. This system is designed for long-term durability and can be fine-tuned over time if minor adjustments are needed. In addition to stabilizing the structure, it was equally important to control the moisture that had contributed to the problem. To accomplish this, our production team installed our CleanSpace crawl space encapsulation system. This heavy-duty vapor barrier was applied across the crawl space floor and walls, sealing off the exposed ground and preventing moisture from entering the space.

A homeowner in Feasterville Trevose, PA contacted us at Quality 1st Basement Systems after noticing two concerning issues developing in their home: persistently damp conditions in the crawl space and uneven floors throughout the ground level. The floors had begun to feel unstable and slightly sloped in certain areas, which raised concerns about possible structural problems beneath the home. In addition to the uneven floors, the crawl space environment was clearly compromised. Excess moisture had created a damp atmosphere, and there were signs of past pest activity along with deteriorating conditions around the support structure. When crawl spaces remain exposed to moisture over time, wooden floor joists can weaken and begin to sag, leading to noticeable changes in the floor above. Recognizing that both moisture and structural support needed to be addressed, the homeowner reached out for a professional evaluation.

After contacting our team, one of our Customer Care Specialists scheduled a comprehensive crawl space inspection. During the visit, our System Design Specialist, John carefully assessed the entire crawl space to determine the root causes of the problems. The inspection revealed elevated humidity levels, moisture intrusion from the exposed crawl space floor, and structural stress on several floor joists. Over time, the damp conditions had contributed to the weakening and sagging of these joists, which explained the uneven floors throughout the home.

As March rolls in and temperatures begin to rise, many homeowners start noticing something unusual inside their homes: more humidity. Even though winter is ending, basements and crawl spaces often become damp, musty, or uncomfortable during early spring. This seasonal shift is extremely common, and understanding why it happens can help you protect your home from moisture problems, mold growth, and poor indoor air quality.

Why Humidity Increases in Spring

When outdoor temperatures begin to warm up, the air can hold more moisture than it could during the cold winter months. Snowmelt, spring rainstorms, and thawing soil all add even more moisture to the environment around your home.

This moisture often finds its way inside through:

Small cracks in concrete or block walls

Open vents

Because basements and crawl spaces are naturally cooler than the rest of the home, warm humid air that enters these spaces can condense on cold surfaces. This is why many homeowners suddenly notice damp walls, musty odors, or increased humidity as soon as the weather changes.

Signs Spring Humidity Is Affecting Your Home

Spring moisture problems often start subtly but can grow worse if ignored. Some common warning signs include:

Musty odors in the basement or crawl space

Damp or sweating walls and floors

Mold spots on stored items or drywall

Increased allergy symptoms indoors

Warped wood or peeling paint

A general “clammy” feeling in the air

Because air naturally rises through a home (a process known as the stack effect), moisture in the basement or crawl space can actually impact the air quality throughout the entire house.

Why Basement and Crawl Space Humidity Matters

Many homeowners assume that moisture in basements or crawl spaces is harmless, but prolonged humidity in these areas can lead to a variety of serious problems over time. When humidity levels climb above about 60%, conditions become ideal for mold growth, allowing spores to develop on surfaces like wood, drywall, and stored items. Persistent moisture can also lead to structural concerns, as wooden framing, floor joists, and subfloors may weaken or deteriorate when exposed to damp conditions for long periods. In addition, humid air tends to feel warmer and heavier, which can force air conditioning systems to work harder and drive up energy bills. Beyond these physical effects, excess moisture can also impact the health of the home’s indoor environment. Musty odors and airborne mold spores from damp basements or crawl spaces can circulate upward through the home, contributing to poor indoor air quality. Addressing humidity early is essential to preventing these issues from developing into larger and more costly problems.

The Role of a High-Performance Dehumidifier

One of the most effective ways to control springtime humidity is with a high-performance basement dehumidifier. Unlike small portable units, professional systems are designed to handle the unique conditions of basements and crawl spaces. A great example is our SaniDry Sedona, a powerful dehumidification system designed specifically for below-grade spaces.

The SaniDry Sedona helps homeowners by:

Removing up to 100 pints of moisture per day

Maintaining healthy humidity levels automatically

Filtering mold spores, dust, and allergens from the air

Draining automatically so you never have to empty a bucket

Because it’s compact and energy efficient, it can quietly control moisture while improving the overall air quality of the home.

Nor'easter Coming? Check Your Sump Pumps!

The weather forecast is tracking a Nor'easter; is your basement ready for it?

When they're predicting, a Nor'easter headed to New Jersey, this is a great time to check your sump pumps. Most of the news reports call for the storm to come up the coast Sunday into Monday with heavy rain, strong winds, and the potential for coastal flooding. When it rains steadily for several hours’ basements can flood.

The experts at Quality 1st Basement Systems suggest making sure everything is in good working order when a storm of this size is coming up the coast. When prepping for major storms, they suggest checking your sump pumps.

“Make sure they’re plugged into a dedicated outlet to insure the circuit won’t trip,” suggests Dan McNally, a waterproofing specialist. “Check the float switch to make sure its operational. Also, if you don’t have a battery backup, get one. All storms have the potential of killing the power. No electricity, no pump. All of this can lead to a flooded basement and hours of clean up.”

Stay safe, stay dry and be prepared.

Last year United Way gave to over 18,900 children throughout Monmouth county.

The Quality 1st Basement Systems office in Cliffwood, New Jersey collected supplies that were picked up, and ready to be given out before the school year begins. Working alongside their sister company Basement Systems in Connecticut, the “Stuff the Bus” campaign was a success receiving donations made through the online site Roonga and from the office drop off location. Dixon Ticonderoga Beginner’s pencils were difficult to find, but Quality 1st delivered.

United Way of Monmouth County lost their sponsorship with Target and could not use the store as a drop-off space for people to donate supplies any longer. They did not reach their projected goal for 2015. Upon hearing this, owner of Quality 1st Basement Systems Tom Roman wrote a check for United Way to purchase the rest of the supplies that they needed.

In December, United Way is sponsoring a Warmest Wishes drive, which will collect winter clothing for children so they can enjoy a warm holiday season. Quality 1st Basement Systems is excited to partner with them for another chance to help the community. Company owner Tom Roman said about the partnership with United Way of Monmouth County, "Helping our children is the best way to help our community. We plan to make every donation campaign a huge success."

Quality 1st Basement Systems is proud to participate in the annual "Stuff the Bus" School Supply Drive held by United Way of Monmouth County. Will you help support the future of our community as well?

Not every child can afford new school supplies. United Way of Monmouth County hopes to change that with Stuff the Bus campaign, a donation program designed to help get school supplies into the hands and minds of children in need. Quality 1st Basement Systems is participating in the program, and will be collecting donations until August 7th.

Last year, United Way gave over 18,900 to children in need throughout Monmouth County. This year, Quality 1st Basement Systems hopes to exceed their goal. Owner Tom Roman says, “Here at Quality 1st, we value education. Getting these kids the supplies they need is important if we want them to succeed. Every little bit counts.”

Stuff the Bus is using an online platform called Roonga, which makes donating to children in need as easy as clicking a mouse. Items purchased through the Quality 1st Basement Systems Team Roonga Page are shipped directly to United Way of Monmouth County for free, where they can then be distributed to children in need. Quality 1st Basement Systems will also be collecting donations at the office located at 359 Route 35 South Cliffwood, NJ.

Quality 1st Basement Systems is requesting school supplies like construction paper, backpacks, watercolor paints, washable markers, spiral notebooks, “beginner’s” pencils, and more. Donators can either order supplies online through Quality 1st’s Roonga team page, or drop them off at the Quality 1st Basement Systems office in Cliffwood, New Jersey.

The United Way describes the campaign, "United Way of Monmouth County welcomes you to join for our 2015 Stuff the Bus drive as we work together creating a positive, permanent impact on education in our community. Our Stuff the Bus drive provides elementary and middle school students in need with brand new school supplies. We will be supplying these items directly to the schools in order to ensure that children with the greatest need receive them in the shortest time possible"

When Joey Roman heard his father’s company, Quality 1st Basement Systems, was participating in Aberdeen Day he knew it was an opportunity to do something great for the community. He suggested Quality 1st sponsor a petting zoo and use the venue to raise funds for Cliffwood Firefighters. Joey then created the “Fill the Boot” campaign. He designed signs and sent a request to the fire company for boots he could place around the petting zoo to collect donations.

Bwana Jim, a wildlife expert, was hired and brought exotic birds, foxes, goats, and many other friendly animals to meet the kids. Joey added to the animal menagerie by bringing his own collection of chickens and ducks. Drawing on his extensive 4-H experience, Joey shared his knowledge on the care and raising of these animals and spent time fielding questions from the crowd.

The “Fill the Boot” campaign was a great success. When Joey counted the donations, they totaled over a $1000.00. Soon after, Joey and his father Tom paid a visit to the Cliffwood Fire Department to present the check. The volunteer firefighters were impressed at the ingenuity of nine-year-old Joey and the success of Quality 1st Basement Systems “Fill the Boot” campaign for firefighters.

When asked about the petting zoo, Tom Roman, owner of Quality 1st Basement Systems, said, “I’m very proud of my son and how he took the initiative to help create a wonderful day for the kids and the ‘Fill the Boot’ campaign for our firefighters. He did a great job.”

Volunteers from Cliffwood Fire Department stopped by Quality 1st Basement Systems main office to personally thank Tom and Joey for their efforts. Quality 1st Basement Systems is proud to be a part of the Aberdeen community and thankful for the firefighters and EMS workers who risk their lives to keep us safe.

Quality 1st Basement Systems donated concrete leveling services to the Keyport Fire Department. The firehouse driveway had many sunken concrete slabs which made it difficult to drive the fire trucks in and out of the firehouse. Quality 1st Basement Systems came to the rescue!

Quality 1st Basement Systems recently donated concrete leveling services to Keyport Fire Department. Sinking concrete slabs is very typical at firehouses due to the heavy weight of the fire trucks. The Mayor of Keyport coordinated with Dori Novick, PolyLEVEL Sales Executive of Quality 1st Basement Systems, to help the Keyport Fire Department. With the completion of work by Quality 1st Basement Systems, the Keyport Fire Department’s normal operations have improved tremendously.

The driveway of the firehouse had many uneven concrete slabs. The concrete had settled up to 5” at the entrance of the driveway, making it almost impossible to drive fire trucks into the firehouse. As a temporary fix, the firehouse installed an asphalt ramp to get the trucks into the firehouse. Unfortunately, the settlement that caused the sinking concrete continued to cause issues for the fire department even after the asphalt was installed. Quality 1st Basement Systems repaired the driveway using the PolyLEVEL concrete leveling system.

PolyLEVEL is a state of the art approach to repairing sinking concrete. The PolyLEVEL method uses high-density polymers to raise slabs back to the desired level. The PolyLEVEL system is completed by drilling very small holes into the slabs and injecting the structural grade polymers into the voids. When the void is filled, the expansion of the polyurethane lifts and stabilizes the slab.

Quality 1st Basement Systems removed the asphalt from the front of the driveway. Using the PolyLEVEL concrete leveling system, the concrete slab was raised back to its original level making it suitable for the trucks to enter the firehouse. Quality 1st Basement Systems also leveled the remaining concrete slabs removing all trip hazards and restoring the large driveway. PolyLEVEL removed any further issues of settlement, is strong enough for fire trucks to drive over, and removed all trip hazards at the Keyport Firehouse. Many members of the fire department visited the site and could not believe how quickly and beautifully the PolyLEVEL installation was done. Quality 1st Basement Systems received so many compliments from the members of Keyport Fire Department.

Quality 1st Basement Systems would like to thank the men and women of Keyport Fire Department for all that they do for our community. Thank you for allowing our company to be part of such a great improvement to Keyport!
