This happens because the soil underneath the the slabs is either too wet, too dry, or poorly compacted causing it to become weak. A homeowner in East Windsor, New Jersey noticed their stairs on the front porch were sinking. The homeowner contacted Quality 1st Basement Systems and our System Design Specialist, Chris Bowe, performed an inspection and saw that the concrete was settling into the soil. This can happen because when the soil underneath is too wet or too dry, or even poorly compacted, this creates weak soil. The weak soil cannot hold the weight of the concrete slab, which further causes the slab to settle and sink. Not only does this look unappealing to the home, but it creates a dangerous tripping hazard. Our foreman, Victor Leon, used the PolyLevel Injection to raise the sinking slab. PolyLevel is a polyurethane foam that is injected by drilling small, penny-sized holes below the slab to raise it back to the original level. Now, the homeowner can walk safely into their home without worrying about tripping.
