Job Stories From Hudson County, NJ
Basement Drain in Demarest, NJ

Barbara B. needed a basement waterproofing system that was proven to work. Her old sump pump was not keeping the basement dry, and water sometimes seeped in through the cinderblock foundation. Quality 1st Basement Systems had the solution! An internal basement drain and a new sump pump would transform this basement from damp to dry.

Quality 1st Basement Systems installed an internal WaterGuard basement drain to collect any moisture that comes into the basement. The water is then transferred to the newly installed sump pump and drained out of the house. Since the WaterGuard basement drain is installed internally, it is free from the dangers of clogging. Tree roots, mud, dirt can all clog up drains and prevent them from working functionally. But with the system installed by Quality 1st Basement Systems, water will move freely out of the basement and this home will stay dry. Barbara B. is glad to have a waterproofing system that works! She is happy with her products and recommends Quality 1st Basement Systems to all of her friends with wet basements.

No More Fear of Severe Wet Weather in Union City, NJ

During some heavy rains, Sam V. noticed that water had found its way into his basement.  He used the internet to search for help with waterproofing when he came across Quality 1st Basement Systems.  He contacted Quality 1st to schedule a no-obligation, free estimate as offered on the website.  Thereafter, waterproofing specialist Jeff Nero visited Sam to complete a thorough inspection and offer an affordable and efficient solution to his basement problem.

A Quality 1st installation crew mobilized to Union City, NJ to begin fixing Sam’s basement.  WaterGuard was included in the design to direct water away from walls and toward the TripleSafe sump pump system, engineered to provide adequate protection and back-up in the event of extreme wet weather.  CleanSpace walling provided a barrier to water vapor as well as brightened up the basement area.

Thanks to Sam’s decision to have Quality 1st Basement Systems fix his basement, he no longer has to worry about water in his basement following heavy rains.

Wet Basement Makeover in North Bergen, NJ

Homeowner Mona P. was getting water in her North Bergen, NJ basement.  Especially concerned with the water intrusion because the area was being used as a living space, Mona contacted Quality 1st Basement Systems for help.  Waterproofing specialist Jeff Nero visited with Mona to provide a design that would be effective in keeping the basement dry as well as enhance the appearance of the living area.

Juan Garcia and crew installed WaterGuard to direct any water coming through the perimeter walls toward a SuperSump, set to pump the water out of the basement.  Waterproof MillCreek flooring and half-wall demo restoration was done, providing a very nice and clean finish to the area.

Mona P. didn’t have to worry about water leaking into the basement living area again.  Additionally, she was satisfied with the aesthetic improvements made possible by Quality 1st Basement Systems.

Helping Firefighters Lower Humidity in Hoboken, NJ

The chief of Hoboken’s fire departments knew what he wanted.  He wanted a dehumidifier.  He also knew what he didn’t want.  He didn’t want to lose thousands of dollars of firefighters’ equipment that was stored in the damp fire station basement where high humidity levels allow mold to grow.  Quality 1st Basement System’s waterproofing specialist, Jeff Nero, visited the chief to inspect the area and discuss the results possible with the SaniDry XP, a high-capacity, high-efficiency dehumidification system.

The ultra-efficient SaniDry XP removes the moisture from the air and blows out a dry air into the space. This system helps keep the humidity levels below 50%, reducing the chance for mold to grow.  It also has a two-stage filter system to clean the air of allergens.  The SaniDry XP seemed to be exactly what was needed in the fire station.  As a matter of fact, the chief determined that another one of the city’s fire stations could benefit from the XP as well.

Santiago Brazero, Project Manager, headed the delivery and installation to begin the process of mastering the humidity for the two fire stations, ensuring that the chief wouldn’t have to worry about the city’s firefighters having moldy gear!

Snowmelt No Longer a Threat in North Bergen, NJ

As warmer weather began to melt fallen snow, Madelina from North Bergen noticed water seeping into her basement laundry room in the area where the wall meets the floor.  She wanted to put a stop to the wetness.  She contacted Quality 1st Basement Systems for help.

John Schweitzer, waterproofing specialist, met with Madelina to inspect the basement and plan a course of action that would help direct any water intrusion to a SuperSump sump pump system for removal.  He included an IceGuard (to prevent flooding if the outside drain freezes) and a LawnScape to disperse the water into the lawn area, away from the foundation of the home.

Quality 1st Basement Systems completed the installation and created another satisfied customer!  Madelina no longer had to fear snowmelt or any other type of water intrusion into her basement.

Rain in Bayonne No Longer a Basement Problem

The rain comes, the rain goes, but sometimes heavy rain leaves an indicator that it was there.  Judy in Bayonne saw this happen in the back of her basement.  She noticed some seepage on the walls after heavy rains and she wanted it to stop.  Waterproofing specialist Jessica Long visited Judy to ensure her that Quality 1st Basement Systems could help her with this problem.

Jessica proposed installation of a waterproofing system which included a full perimeter WaterGuard, an UltraSump sump pump, a TrenchLock, an IceGuard, and a half-wall CleanSpace Wall System.  The CleanSpace helps prevent water vapor from coming through the walls while it also drains leaks into the WaterGuard.  To transition across a stairway and to catch any water leakage that may come from outside, a TrenchLock trench drain (connected to the WaterGuard) was put in place.  Water in the WaterGuard is directed to the UltraSump, pumped out of the basement, and is also prevented from causing a flood in winter months (if the discharge line freezes) by inclusion of an IceGuard.

While Judy couldn’t wish the rain away, she was able to get Quality 1st Basement Systems to install an efficient system that would prevent seepage from ruining her basement space by directing it out of the home.  Now she no longer has to worry about the basement when it rains!

Crawl Space Dehumidification to Eliminate Musty Odors in West New York

Willie of West New York disliked the smells being emitted from his crawl space.  The musty odors of were creeping up from the ignored space to the living area of the home.  Willie knew he had to take action, so he hopped on the internet to search for help.  What he found was Quality 1st Basement Systems with an offer to provide a free inspection, consultation, and estimate to fix crawl space problems.  He called and made an appointment.

Waterproofing specialist Nick Biris met with Willie and inspected the crawl space area.  They decided on a plan to permanently eliminate the musty odors.  Step one was to install a new, snug-fitting EverLast Crawl Space Door to prevent moisture from entering.  Then the air vents would be replaced with CleanSpace plastic airtight vents to further help seal the crawl space from damp outside air.  Lastly, a low-profile auto-draining SaniDry CX Crawl Space and Basement Air System was installed to keep the area dry.

The combination of efforts to keep the crawl space sealed and dry would eliminate the potential for mold, mildew, and other musty smelling growths from thriving beneath Willie’s home.  Thereon after, Willie could breathe drier, filtered air without the nasty smells from below!

New Homeowners' Dismay Turned to Relief in Kearny, NJ

A new home…oh, the excitement!  However, new homeowners in Kearny, NJ found that worry can come with excitement.  In looking around their new investment, they noticed water stains on the walls in the basement.  They knew that water stains were an indication of a problem that wouldn’t resolve itself, so they called Quality 1st Basement Systems for help.  Waterproofing specialist Kenny Tramutola visited the couple to ensure them that Quality 1st Basement Systems could alleviate some of their worries.

Kenny proposed installation of a waterproofing system which included a full perimeter WaterGuard, a TripleSump sump pump, a TrenchLock, an IceGuard, CleanSpace Walling, and a half-wall EverLast Wall System.  The CleanSpace Walling helps drain water vapor and leaks into the WaterGuard.  To transition across a stairway and to catch any water leakage that may come from outside, a trench drain (connected to the WaterGuard) is put in place.  Water in the WaterGuard is directed to the TripleSump, which includes an efficient primary pump, a back-up pump (in case the first one fails or if there is a need for extra pumping power), and a third battery-operated pump (designed to kick in if the power goes out).  The TripleSafe pumps water out of the basement and is also prevented from causing a flood in winter months (if the discharge line freezes) by inclusion of an IceGuard.

Quality 1st Basement Systems was happy to install this efficient system that would prevent seepage from ruining the basement space by directing it out of the home.  Now the couple could relax and enjoy their new home, including the waterproofed basement!

Separating the Home from the Earth with Encapsulation in Manahawkin, NJ

Roy R. was hoping to eliminate dampness and moisture problems in his crawlspace.  He flipped through a coupon magazine and found an ad for Quality 1st Basement Systems.  The ad promised a no-obligation, free estimate by a waterproofing specialist.  An appointment was scheduled to have waterproofing specialist John Schweitzer out to Manahawkin to inspect the problem area and develop a plan for resolving the wetness beneath Roy’s home.

The best solution was proposed for Roy’s crawl space: to separate the home from the earth.  This process would involve encapsulating the crawl space area.  First, CleanSpace Drainage Matting would be installed on the floor to eliminate sitting water and direct it to a drainage system.  Next, the installation of SilverGlo Insulation Panels for the walls would reflect heat back into the crawl space for energy efficiency while providing a water vapor barrier. Lastly, a durable CleanSpace liner would installed to further prevent vapor from making its way into the crawl space and to complete the encapsulation.

The next step involved sealing the vents with Vent Covers, installing The Turtl access well, and installing a SaniDry CX.  The SaniDry CX is a low profile, energy efficient air filtration system which dries out the air and filters indoor allergens.  It is also designed to maintain a low relative humidity to prevent mold growth.

Once the installation was completed, no longer was the crawl space beneath Roy R.’s home damp and dank.  Roy R. found a brighter, drier area isolated from the earth.  His home would be healthier; He would thereafter be able to experience energy-savings with a warmer main level of his home and a healthier, moisture-free crawl space!

Jersey City. NJ Homeowner Waterproof Basement

A Jersey City Homeowner found out the walls in her basement kept leaking after every heavy rainfall. The homeowner had waterproofed their basement but it wasn’t installed properly. A small leak can allow a basement to flood and damage finishing materials and stored items. The homeowner did some research on google and found a Quality 1st Basement System Waterproofing ad through Angies list website They immediately called for a free estimate.

Design Specialist Philip Matthews went out to the home and inspected the basement flooding. After a thorough inspection, Phil recommended a SuperSump Premier Sump Pump System, and a WaterGuard French Drainage System be installed. The SuperSump is an effective and economical solution to keep your basement safe as it can pump 11.500 gallons or more on a single charge. The WaterGuard System is an ideal choice for waterproofing the floor as it drains all the water that seeps through the wall to the WaterGurad into the SuperPump. Project Manager Wilver Cardoza and his crew, provided a permanent solution to the water concerns in the basement of this Jersey City home.

Homeowner Calls Quality 1st after Basement Flooded

A homeowner living in Jersey City, reached out to Quality 1st Basement Systems after their basement had begun to flood with 2 to 3 inches of water. The homeowner had never experienced flooding like this in the basement before. Usually, water would seep through the concrete wall near the floor and the family would just wait for the rain to stop and allow the water to dry up on its own. This time, it wasn't just a small leak that would dry over time but a flood of water due to the heavy rain.

Quality 1st Basement Systems sent System Design Specialist, Jack Huntsman, out to inspect the basement and provide a permanent solution to the Jersey City family. Jack recommended a TripleSafeSump Pump System that would keep the basement dry due to its large size. The TripleSafeSump Pump has an excellent performance rating since it has three sump pumps inside allowing it to keep up with heavy rain fall. This sump pump also has a backup battery allowing it to continue to perform during a power outage. Jack informed the homeowner that the TripleSafe is very reliable and the best solution for their water problem in their basement.

After a month with no rain, the Jersey City homeowner was finally able to see their TripleSafeSump pump in action. It rained for three days straight and the homeowner was relieved to see that the basement stayed dry through the entire storm. Quality 1st Basement Systems actually received a call from the homeowner, thanking them again. Project Manager, Juan Garcia, and his crew were able to provide this Jersey City family with a solution that solved their water issues in their basement.

Sinking Interior Garage Floor in North Bergen, NJ

The interior garage floor of a beautiful home in North Bergen, NJ had settled roughly 1 to 4 inches which brought much concern to the homeowners. Luckily they had heard about Quality 1st Basement Systems Concrete lifting and leveling technology and called for a free estimate.

Quality 1st Basement Systems lifted and leveled the entire area by injecting PolyLevel underneath the floor slabs. After just 15 minutes of completing the injections, the homeowner was able to put both cars back into the garage. The homeowners were amazed at how quickly and easy the installation was. They appreciated the fact that the crew left their garage spotless after cleaning up leaving nothing but the two cars in the garage. Now the floor slabs are leveled and stabilized to prevent further sinking or settlement.

Foundation Settlement in Long Branch, NJ

Foundation failure is a scary problem for any homeowner. One of the biggest things about foundations is the lack of information homeowners have about their foundation and why its cracked or settling. Luckily for the homeowners in Long Branch, NJ they knew exactly who to call for an estimate on their failing foundation, Quality 1st Basements. System Design Specialist, Jeff Nero, met with John and Mary to inspect the foundation of their home, explain the causes of foundation failure and design a solution that best stabilized their home. Jeff noticed several staircase cracks along the basement walls. Two of the cracks were so large that the natural sunlight from outside began to shine through.

After a full walkthrough inspection with John and Mary, they sat down to discuss the causes of staircase cracks and the best solution offered by Quality 1st Basements. Jeff explained that stair-step cracking is a common symptom of foundation settlement. When the home begins to settle, vertical cracks form and begin to widen as the wall rotates. A foundation will settle when the soil underneath the home can no longer hold the weight. This will cause the home to shift and the foundation to crack. Jeff recommended  Push Piers, since they reach deep into the ground to the stable soil to ensure permanent stability for the foundation. Push Piers never rust and the installation is less invasive to the area of the home. Over time it can often lift the foundation back towards its original position. John and Mary knew right away they wanted Quality 1st Basements to permanently stabilize their foundation, gives them peace of mind, and of course protect their biggest investment, their home!

Quality 1st Foreman, Jonathan Neira and his team installed 8 Push Piers along the foundation of the home where the foundation was cracking. During the halfway point of the installation, Jonathan did a walk through with both John and Mary to keep them up to date on the progress and give them a rough estimate of completion. Once the project was the complete and the final walk through was finished, Jonathan and his team left no trace of a project ever being done. The property was clean, the homeowners were happy and Quality 1st had two new satisfied customers!

Uneven Concrete Walkway in Harrison, NJ

When you begin to notice your concrete is settling, the best action to take is to call a professional instead of ignoring it. Ignoring the signs will only cause more settlement and eventually more damage. A homeowner in Harrison, NJ waited years before addressing their concrete issues resulting in an entire walkway area 10 slabs long with up to 4 inches of settlement. Luckily they contacted Quality 1st Basements for a free estimate on concrete lifting and leveling. Concrete Repair Specialist, Andy went out to inspect the walkway area and provide a solution.

Our PolyLevel team drilled small penny-size holes into the concrete slabs and began to inject PolyLevel Foam underneath to fill the void causing the settlement. Once the job was completed the entire walkway area was raised back towards its desired position. The customer was amazed not only at the installation process but how the entire area was left cleaner than when they started.

A New Libson, NJ homeowner discovered their concrete porch had sunk about three inches, so they contacted Quality 1st Basement Systems for help. A thorough inspection was done by our Concrete Repair Specialist, Jeff P. Jeff provided a quote for the homeowner, and within a few days, our crew arrived to repair the porch.

Our crew lifted the sinking concrete using the Polylevel Injection Method. Polylevel is commonly used throughout the country since it is waterproof, environmentally friendly, and takes about fifteen minutes to repair from installation. The process starts with our crew drilling small, penny-sized holes into the concrete. They use specially designed equipment to inject the polyurethane foam into the void underneath the slab. In the end, the homeowner was very pleased to see their concrete porch looking as good as new again!

Concrete Driveway Repair in Harrison, NJ

A driveway should provide safety and stability, not tripping hazards and uneven concrete! This homeowner in Harrison, New Jersey saw their concrete driveway was sinking and becoming unlevel. This can happen when concrete is poured over poorly backfilled soil. Over time, this soil settles and creates voids underneath the slab. Another reason could be the soil constantly becoming saturated and dry from the weather. This can expand and shrink the soil, which can cause voids to form underneath. If this goes without repair, the uneven concrete could cause tripping hazards!

The homeowner did not want this issue to go without resolution, so they searched online. They came across Quality 1st Basement Systems and gave us a call. Our customer care representative booked them an appointment with our System Design Specialist, Joseph DelVecchio. Joseph provided a thorough free inspection and estimate and suggested they use polyurethane foam to lift and level the concrete.

A few days later, our foreman Ramon arrived at the home and began the process of using our PolyLevel Injections. This method is done by drilling small, penny-sized holes into the concrete and injecting the polyurethane foam into the voids underneath the slab. This process is repeated until the concrete slabs are raised.

Within 20 minutes, the job was complete. When the homeowner saw the results, they were satisfied with the work and professionalism they witnessed on the job! They no longer had to worry about tripping hazards on their driveway!
